There was a thread in Talk About.../People forum. It was three new users saying "hi, i'm new." I replied with a welcome.

I noticed the thread was not in my subs. So I went back and checked and found out the entire thread is gone from the forum.

An innocent thread, not the sort of thing that would normally be closed, let alone deleted.

This is not a complaint, rather an advisory. I couldn't care less if the thread was deleted - that's POTN's business. Just thought I would mention it in case it ends up being a glitch that signals the impending doom of the POTN database - or of the end of the world itself.

If you looked at the link in the signature, you'll see that it was a link to some kind of a debt advice website.

We call this "signature spam". Spammers join a forum, post up a few inane comments with the express purpose of getting people to click on the link in their signature.

In this case, the user has been banned and the thread removed.

vBulletin doesn't normally just drop threads for no reason. There's cases sometimes when threads are moved from one section to another (because someone's posted in the wrong section).

Didn't view the signature. Probably would have reported the post if I had.

POTN is safe and secure. Good to know the world is not about to end! :D

On some forums that I moderate/administer I am seeing spam posts where they copy text from another valid user post, paste it into a new post that looks legit and either appends a link or adds the link to their sig. The spammers are getting tricky!

Yeah, the same thing happens here as well.

All of us moderators must pass on a big thanks to the users here for reporting spam as soon as they see it. It goes a large way to keeping POTN the spam-free place that it is today.

...and us lowly braves need to pass on a big thanks to the mods for taking care of these parasites. I know it's a lot of work and, at least to me, it seems that POTN runs rather smoothly.

Wow, going back and looking at that, it looks like I'm kissing arse here. That's only reserved for my wife and I get in trouble.
