i need a wide angle for my 1d3

i already have a 35L that i use for general pourpose and low light shots, and 70-200 2.8

i need something wide for landscape for the most....but i'll use it in the mountain in the snow for freeride shot while skiing.....these are my ideas:

1-17-40 cheaper solution, waterproof with uv filter...only f4..but i have a f1.4 35mm

2-16-35 waterproof, f2.8, wider than 17-40...but is a luxury to have 16-35 and 35L (to use for low light shots...)

3- buy 16-35...sell 35L and buy a 50L so i have 35mm in the wide angle zoom and a new focal lenght (65mm...usefull or not)

4- buy a fixed wide angle..very nice for landscape and low light photo...but not so usefull like a zooom for reportage and skiing use...or not?
4a- 24L...nice but too close with the 35L?
4b- 14L...nice but too expensive and too far from 35mm?

Please a i need your help...i can't decide!!!

Made a pretty similar post about 2 days ago. I have the 17-40 and all I can say is that it is a very nice lens. But for me I found out that I need f/2.8. So I think I sell my 17-40 and get the 16-35. The other lens I thought of was the Sigma 14mm but I think the zoom option is better for me.

So for u, I think I would go with option 3. Then u have a wide angle zoom and the nice 50mm L.

I think the 16-35 is the way to go.

I don't own one yet but I'd choose either the 16-35 or the new 24. Both have weatherproofing.

If you don't need the $ to apply to the new glass then keep the 35 and decide if you still need it later.

I couldnt be happier with the 16-35 on the MKIII. Its a great combination. If its only for landscape work the 17-40 would also be excellent but I find for indoor use extra stop is worth the increased cost (well probably :))

for the most i need wide angle for landscape...i'll use it also for reportge/general use if the new wide angle will be a zoom ...

and some landscape without tripod need f4/f5/f6.3....cause of the light...

i like so much photo made with prime, fast prime....without tripod in the night or evening at f1.4-f2 ...and for this pourpose i use the 35L ....50l i thing is not wide enoght
i also use 35L for indoor shots

for reportage, and landscape i think i need a zoom (also because 14II is toooooo expensive)

so the battle is between 16-35, 17-40....really don't know...

thare's another thing...(the most important?)...that make me think about zoom or prime....if i buy one of the two canon zoom...i forgot in my bag the 35L(1k) and use it only for low light situation (and some shots with shallow dof)??????

so...i have to complete(with lots of time....2years?) my set up with prime.. buying first the 14L and than a 24L so i can do all kind of photo with these prime and i only have to choose FL for the kind of shot i wanna do???

...or complete with a comfortable zoom my set up...and use the zoom for landscape and reportage in the range 16/17-24...and for the other kind of shots use the 35l??

I think that the 16-35 is a great FL on the 1d3. I loved the 50L on FF but just found I never used it with the 1.3crop... 65 just seemed like an awkward length. however, 35mm on the 1d3 was excellent. I would suggest getting the 16-35 as it also makes a great walk around and keeping the 35L if you can. There are some pretty good 16-35 Mki's out there. I now have a mkii and love it on my 1d3...

I dig the 16-35. Took to California and Ireland last year and it was awesome for both. It pretty much is my go to lens.

I used the Sigma 12-24 with great results on my MKIII....

Perhaps one of the widest lenses you can put on your MKIII.

Feedback on 17-40mmL- I find it outstanding for my needs even on a crop camera. Sounds like you want a outdoor landscape lens . As you said you already have a 35l covering low light. The 17-40L is sharp and excels outdoor . Actually, I use it for a outdoor walk around lens. It is less money, and could very well be all you need for this purpose. My vote- with 35mm 1.4 already- go with the 17-40mm. Use money elsewhere.

...now i have TO decide only this...

-buy the cheap 17-40 NOW(!) and use it for landscape

-WAIT 3-4 MONTH...and go crazy ....buy 14II
