Hi there. You might think about shooting at a wider aperture and lower ISO (EXIF says f/7.1 and ISO800). That would get you better subject/background separation and less noise.

Also try and avoid the harsh contrast of direct sunlight.

Kids make great subjects - I'm sure you'll have lots of fun!

This was shot with a 10-22, its really too wide but it was all I had with me and I think the shot was set to 22 and 5.6 is the lowest on that lens...

OK...in that case perhaps use f/5.6 rather than f/7.1 and a slower shutter speed might help you drop the ISO (you were at 1/320 so there's some room there).

Something I've recently learned to think about, courtesy of the good people on POTN, is to consider crops that don't place the subject's eyes in the centre of the frame...perhaps that's useful to you.

Yeah that is rule of 3rds... I knew I had to crop... she isn't really in the sun, not sure what you mean about direct sun
