well im going to ask this in the bird forum because its pretty much alll this camera is going to be used for . my dilema is .

i was going to sell up and get the d300 but that just not cost affective and the price of the nikon camera and lens + tc would hit £2000.

so this idear has come to mind and (MITCH HAS KINDLY MADE MY BRAIN ALL SQUISHY  .

would a 1dmk2 for birds in flight be better than my 40d on the bigma which will havea new af mechanizem being done at the shop as we speek.

some imahes would help me a lot and as for the £££££ second hand prices on this model is a lot better than the 1dmk2n.

please help.

many thanks

jason

Jason, I immediately started getting birds in flight with my MkIIN I never would have tried before with the 40D. Grab your socks buddy, then look at these Pelicans shot with the MkIIN, 1.4x Sigma and Canon 400/5.6, handheld and are you getting this, while sitting in a small boat on the Mississippi River.

Here's some small birds shots, hand held while sitting in that same boat.

Here's a Kingbird in flight.

Now, my Bigma was bought with the funds from my first 400/5.6 after I sold it. It worked amazingly well with that old 1D Classic I had bought and it kept Auto Focus with a 1.4x stacked on it to. Don't worry buddy, that Bigma is going to snap to focus, with or without a 1.4x on it, with a MkIIN. Remember, I always said my Bigma focused so fast I could not tell the difference between it and my 400/5.6? You won't be disappointed.

I keep saying MkIIN, but the MkII is just as good and should be a lot cheaper. Just some of the bells and whistles the N has won't be there, but the AF is the same and the sensor is the same. ;)
