Your pictures are on their way to becoming OK, but there is a point in every picture you've posted where you can see you've got to the part where the picture is right on the edge of acceptable, and then you've taken the processing a little bit further than it needed to go.

It results in an image that looks OK at a glance but falls down under proper scrutiny.

That picture is much much better than the church though, the processing is far less harsh.
