Like the title says. Will a RRS/Kirck L plate for a 30D with grip fit on a 40D with grip? Ignoring the hole for the remote release, is it a straight bolt on?

All of the xxD cameras are the same external size and have the threaded hole in the same place (otherwise they wouldn't be able to all use the same battery grip) so I would assume that the L plate will fit correctly.

Email the company that make it. Can't see why it wouldn't fit.

It will not fit.

Look here at "Design changes compared to the EOS 30D" you can see that the connections on the side are different.

What will fit is 40D and 50D l-bracket.

That may not be a good assumption. Sure, the mounting bolt may be in the same position, but there's no guarantee that the electrical ports will be fully accessible when using an L-bracket not specifically designed for a particular body.

You may have saved yourself $40 and shipping charges. The bracket for the 40D differs slightly from that of the 30D (at least the RRS model). You'll save yourself some grief by emailing either RRS or Kirk...they're both friendly and knowledgeable and will answer any question.

He did say "Ignoring the hole for the remote release" in the original post...
