hi, i have just recently got my Canon G3....i thought it was a pretty good camera to START with. it all started with taking a few pics at a car meet with my friends, and then it just went on from that and im kinda gettin into the whole photography thing at least i want to try to. well i've been messing around with the camera alot and as of now i figured out how to do night shots. here are a few shots if you would like to see.

these shots were taken withOUT a tripod nor any lenses or adapters. well my question for now is im going to do a "photoshoot" @ the beach with a girl posing with the car above. its gonna be done during the day, most likely sunny...any suggestions on what settings i should be using? also i want to try some sunrise/sunset shots....what settings should i use there? also close up shots(flowers etc)

Those are some great photo's!
I like my G3 also, it has been good to me.
Now I am learning the angles of the EOS 20D.
It's sure not as simple as the G3 to use for
various reasons!
Anyways, you have some nice results with your G3
Good Job!

if it is a sunny day the sand (providing it is quite light in colour) can act as a natural 'reflector' to get light in to the models face and prevent nasty shadows, so it seems a good location to be for a shoot.
I heard a rule that at sunsets and sunrises to avoid shooting into the sun, but to turn 90 or 180 degrees away from the sun as it provides some great lighting and long shadows. I always find pictures of direct sunsets very boring and never take them myself. I have not got any really good examples of photos taken at 90 or 180 degrees from the sun but here are 2 taken recently:

...you can see it makes them orangey in appearance = nice light : )) and nice shadows...
I remember reading somewhere that the camera's auto white balance can take away some of these nice warm colours at sunrise and sunset, which can be prevented by switching the white balance to 'day light' setting. Don't use tungsten setting in this situation as this will just make things a cold blue : (( unless that is what you want!! hope this helps a little...

I visited INDIA in 1999, and I was in Chennai. I am very impressed by your photo's. They seem to show more of the country than I ever have seen before. Do you have more to show.

Thank you very much

Jim

Nope, sorry, no more india photos for the web gallery, even though I have 600 in total, lots are just boring and repetative. You can see www.butterpeanut.com (external link) for links to some older pics though from Europe, which are just not as interesting as the India bunch..

....oh, and most were taken on my ever reliable G3 : )))

I like the first photo of the eclipse but why not move the van out of the picture? The number, color and yellow stripe pull the eyes away from the car.
