It doesnt necessarily have to be at someones house; there are always the portable BBQ trays.

So we could pick a cool evening photography spot and then have beer, burgers and sausages whilst taking a few choice pictures.

I personally found China to be the safest place i have ever travelled. Not always a nice safe though. You will get followed by plain clothes policemen sometimes. They dont want anyone messing with you as they would rather not have foreign media looking in at their country if they can help it.

You are also right that the punishments for stealing or injuring a foreigner are incredibly harsh.

Really depends on where you went, places like Beijing and Hong Kong are safe, but Shaghai not as safe as the others. Me being chinese here alot of stories. Also my dad has been pickpockted, my Uncle has had his waist bag slashed and stolen.

And my Aunty (who lives there) told us about a friend who was mugged for her necklace, and the then following day the thief slapped her and swore at her for wearing fake jewllery.

Ref BBQ

I surmise Aus is the same but in SA they have Braai points in all the public leisure areas and can get very busy on nice days. They love their outdoor cooking :D

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

Wow, never saw anything like that, but i did see some shoplifters get seriously beaten by the security guards when caught.

I went to Beijing, harbin, Qingdao, Xian, Chengdu, nanjing, Hefei, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Xiamen, HongKong and Macao over the course of 3 months. (my map looks like something from Indiana Jones lol )

Very good fun and an incredibly interesting country to visit. Chinese New year was probably the most spectacular thing i have ever seen.

I bought one from Clever Trevor and it is a quality piece of kit. Folds up very small too and its easy to pack into a backpack along with the rest of your gear. My arms aren't quite strong enough to reliably fold it back up yet, so i havent taken it anywhere with me thus far.

The same things are on ebay for lower prices though....

They use sprung wire, similar to the circular reflector panels that lastolite make. Seems to be very durable. You have to fold/twist it to get it packed away. For the money, its an incredibly well made bit of kit.
