Looking into it tho, it does'nt hold the flash rear facing so it is not what I would call a softbox, the Westcott have an umbrella in the rear to bounce and soften the flash light ..

Well, every studio softbox is a front facing light system. The westcotts, although very nice have quite a few people complaining that the light cannot sit in the centre due to the umbrella swivel head , so there is hotter light toward the top. From looking at Rich's Westcotts, i don't see this hot spot thing being a massive issue, but the lastolite copies are allot less likely to get damaged as they dont have umbrella arms and they pack up to just smaller than an A4 pad and about 2" deep.

If you are not in a rush, you can have a look at mine at the next meet?

That shouldn't be an issue as the light is being reflected around the back of the softbox before coming out of the front. The idea is to give a more even spread of light, not less. Maybe they're using them with the flash the wrong way round!?!?!

As i said, from using Rich's i cant see it being an issue at all.

The inside of these lastolite copies is fully reflective - the face of the speedlight sits just at the opening at the back, not inside the softbox itself, so the light gets bounced around allot. You could also use a sto-fen to scatter the light so it is more like a bare bulb set-up too.

I don't have any examples to hand, but the light from the lastolite copy is very even and soft. I have no buyers remorse - I got mine for £39 including delivery and i am considering getting another one.

It doesnt necessarily have to be at someones house; there are always the portable BBQ trays.

So we could pick a cool evening photography spot and then have beer, burgers and sausages whilst taking a few choice pictures.

That sounds pretty interesting as a plan.
I think it needs somewhere to shoot as unique as the idea...........i have the coast in my mind but am quickly running out of steam, must be the wine.

Dungerness as previously mentioned would be a good place light houses, power station, beach huts and light railway could all make for some interesting shots.

Great for some long exposures, light painting and some off-camera flash portraits too :)

whilst Dungerness sounds great, what are the rail connections like? Would you guys not prefer to be able to go somewhere where you can leave the car at home and have a beer instead!?
Obviously not a problem for LL in this case ;)

Fair enough. I dont drink regularly, but it just seems plain wrong to have a BBQ without a beer ;)
