I've been having my PC hopefully sorted today, its not frozen on me yet!! :D

Was hoping to get Windows 7, but had to stick with XP until November time when my mate can get me a full running copy!

Evening all. Back from a lovely week in Brittany. I didn't get a load of photos as it wasn't really a photo hol but I got a few. Will post them in the next few days.

Bugger of an evening though - it took 45 minutes to get out of Dover docks because 3 ships off-loaded at the same time, got home to find that the freezer hadn't been shut properly so it had iced up and needs defrosting, picked my computer up - didn't realise it didn't come with a power cable so I have everything now but power for it! But I did get an email from Windows magazine which told me I'd won one of these: http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=229398 (external link) so it's not all bad!!

Just got home, don't have many/any photos to show mostly snapshots of friends embarrassing themselves which i don't think i can post for fear of my life.

I'll look through them tomorrow, absolutely shattered. Tubes were packed like sardines today.

Hey guys, here are a few from today's WHF trip. I will post more tomorrow - i am really not in teh right mood for sorting/editing pcitures tonight.

This tiger took serious exception to me. Whilst i had my lens pressed against the wire fence, this Tigress roared incredibly loudly and leaped against the fence, followed by aggressive snarling and swiping. Needless to say i shat myself.

This is the only picture i got as i was too busy running back from the fence. Sadly i dont think Adrian caught it either - it was really scary, even knowing that it couldnt get to me.

Here is the same tigress, but in a more sedate setting.

This tiger wasn't the only Cat to dislike me - one of the leopards went for me too.Its quite scary, but it does lead to some awesome photos! I will upload those tomorrow.(The keeper said it was because of my blue t-shirt, but i wasn't so sure)

Hi Matt

Does it freeze when idling i.e. nothing running at all? Or when you do a repeatable series of things?

In the case of the latter is it whilst using PS? If so what RAM allocation have to set in the PS prefs? Over 65% and you are asking for trouble IMO!

I wonder also whether the power supply could be a root cause? I have also read of random freezing happening where the Northbridge chip is overheating though many (most?) modern motherboards have passive heatsinks on this item though not mine it has 40mm fan whizzing away that I did replace as it was failing.

HTH possibly, maybe...oh well you never know

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

Hi everyone,

Kaben ~ that's one peed off tiger!

I've just got back from a really lovely wedding. B & G arrived at the reception by helicopter, then we had a plane doing aerobatics and then a flypast from the local flying club (B is a flying instructor there and G is a pilot too)

It was loads of fun though and the lighting at the reception was fab! It was outside so lots of evening sun and backlighting.

Hope everyone else has had a lovely day,

Lizzy

So, erm .. In English?

I think it could be memory, or heat, going to give it a hoover out tomoz, clear some dust!

Sorry Matt :o IMO causes of freezing are many so as I said and KC asks/implies the devil is in the detail and knowing with a more detailed description of the events (history) leading up to the 'event' can aid in diagnosing it.

And yes heat is a major killer of Hard Drives, Processor, memory and some components generally. For the record I have two fans blowing directly over the hard drives in my case. And as for dust ~ I clean my case out once a year with a compressed air can. I disconnect everything and take it out into the garden and taking care where I blast away get the muck out and mine sits on a desk not hoovering up the household detritus off the floor ;)

Yes, both me and my husband were the photographers today, the bride taught my husband to fly so that's how he knows her. I'm sure they'll be cool about me posting some of the images but I'll have to wait until they see them first. And I shot a lot on film so I need to get them processed first ;)

Ok I get ya .. It can freeze from anything as simple as looking on Facebook to using lightroom and CS3. It does'nt seems to have any patterns, can go 5 mins from booting up to 6,7,8 hours ..
