#3 says your supper

#4 is the money shot though I would crop some off of that righthand side - such dead space detracts from the image overall. Also to me it looks like the primary focus is the tongue so the eyes a just a tad OOF. I wonder if a little selective sharpening would work on that ???

Thanks BB, i will have a go at sharpening tomorrow :)

It was a great day Chris - highly recommended to anyone thinking of going.

Great shots #4 followed by #3 are my favourites as well.

I agree with everyone else keep the 70-200 ( much lighter to lug round all day ) and go for the 100-400 when you need the extra reach and shoulder is up to using for a whole day.

Adam I was looking at the 300 2.8 as well with a x2 extender, my reasoning being it covers low light and give plenty of reach downside is it certainly bumps up the price of the weekend

The hire price is the problem for me, poor enough as it is ;)

Donna Nook recap :D

Final numbers for Donna Nook

Laurence.........Box Brownie
Rich..............Swaffs
Rob...............Kaben
Ian...............Iesphotos
Adrian............Adrian512
Adam.............AdamLC
Peter.............Petersymes
Neal...............Nealhumphris - I do hope he can make it but I understand Adrian is due to tie up with him to confirm if he is going to be able to?

As previously mentioned the hotel is 'booked' and I will pay the deposit sometime tomorrow (Mon 24th Aug) late afternoon/evening time. This as stated will be £40 per head and I will PM you all with my contact details to repay that element ~ the £100 per head balance will be due on checkout. If no update from Neal I will make a confirmed/deposit for 7 rooms with a request that they hold a booking for the 8th room as long as possible. In my phone chat with the hotel I got the clear impression that this should not be a problem but obviously confirming the rooms now guarantees the allocations.

Right, breakfast as noted earlier. As we need to be at Donna Nook at 6.45am and as breakfast service does not start at that early I have asked that we be served at 6am as a result of this we will be dining continental style but I have made a request that if possible could they make bacon rolls available for those that want them? I am hopefull that they will do so.

Ref rooms - all will be en-suite but if you want a bathtub rather than just a shower say so! Though I have been told that those with baths have shower attachments but it was not clear if these are indeed shower over bath type???

It is great that this POTN SE meet is almost down pat and everything I read about the site and the grey seals is going to make this a good adventure :D :D

The last thing we will need to do nearer the time is make arrangements for sharing of transport as appropriate ~ according to my Sat Nav it is 172miles and 4 hours away from the Guildford area !

Any feedback as appropriate to myself and/or Adrian?

ttfn :)

At the moment I still think the 100-400 is the versatile choice, by all accounts we will at times be surprisingly close to the animals. Having said that sods law says the best shots of the bulls fighting will be at 500mm lens 'reach'......oh well we will not all getting exactly the same image opportunties or else it could be boring when sharing/comparing images/notes

As for max aperture to suck the light in, well I found the 40D gives respectably low noise at ISO800 upwards.......as the recommendation is for tripod usage I am wondering about the Bigma???

Not sure if this one works, I have blurred round the face to hide the fact I have cut the tail off

Adrian

Lovely set and the Cougar leaping is a great capture also the 'look' of the Pallas's cat (thanks Chris ~ looke more like a domestic cat) but a couple need a little lift IMO so have given them a a zip through, hope you find them OK? In the case of the tiger pair ~ a little underexposed and tonally flat - In the case of the (pensive) Leopard needed the details bringing out ;) Working off the web sized images what I have done is maybe a little overcooked?

Methinks a SE POTN meet at WHF needs to be on the books :D

On my (uncalibrated bar the built in auto-cal) imac the 2 images look a little dark, actually only image one... but both could do with a bit more saturation. And, what gorgeous pictures they are. Nice.

POTN meet at WHF does indeed sound good... and before the weather turns crap would be a bonus too. Having said that, I am very fond of high contrast B&W shots of the big cats, so I guess crap weather doesn't matter too much.

Tis a lovely shot rob. The extra bokeh works well, but I would edit out the tail completely anyway for the fact it's been cut off. I think that would work better. JMO.
