I have tried most things, changing the channels, encryption and updating the drivers. The problem is signal strength. Downstairs it is normally okay but the study is the third bedroom where my wife does most her work ( medical student ) and is very reliant on the internet.

Bt's support has not been good. I even paid for a general support package for three months. They were more helpful and knowledgiblve but still not able to sort the problem out.

With my limited knowledge I think the hub is the problem. I already have sky tv so I could give them a try and if necessary could go down the booster route. I have got to the stage of being fed up of BT and don't want to give them any more money than I have to.

Setting aside the BT & alternate ISP situation ~ the use of HomePlugs in the network is supposed to be a good idea for overcoming signal strength issues in some houses. As a supplier I have used these guys http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk …sp?ShopGroupID=61&Alt=Yes (external link) but I am not a HomePlug user though that was my backstop if I failed to improve the SWMBO laptop at that time.

:)

Pete have you looked into boosters and if so what will you recommend?

I am glad I have a laptop, bloody connection kept dropping out so I have had to move downstairs grrh. Do you know what the problems with Virgin were?

They're basically additional access point (google for "wireless access point" and you'll see them).

The previous occupants of our house decided to run an ethernet cable from the dining room (where the main phone point is) right around the outside of the house up to the front single bedroom (my man-room). I'll eventually use this to put another wireless access point. Truth be told though, I don't really need wireless upstairs.

Did a Google (is that innthe OED yet?) for BT Homehub poor wireless and found this forum thread http://www.digitalspy.co.uk …s/showthread.php?t=954949 (external link)

The tone of the thread is that the Homehubs are variable at best depending on the "version" you have.

Personally I'd have the floorboards up and run some cat5. In fact it's what I have done through the house. It may be a compatibility issue with the laptop and the hub. I've had that before with a previous wireless access point (a Dlink one), having moved to a Netgear all-in-one jobby later my wireless quality has improved. That said if I'm sitting down in one location then I plug it in, makes life much easier.

As an alternate wander the laptop round the house a bit and see if it's just a small area in the room that's dropping out or the whole room, you may be able to sort it with a furniture rearrangement or even mounting the router higher up the wall.

I've recently moved to Sky Broadband MAX as the LLU options at my exchange were otherwise crap and there's the discount when you have Sky TV. The router is a rebadged Netgear DG834 seemingly which at least is a good unit. Speed and stability have also been good so far though pings are sometimes iffy depending what games I'm playing.

Unfortunately I am renting so you need to ask permission to fart otherwise I would have looked at running a cable from the dining room to the study. Looks as though the router is not the best in the world. I think I will go down the sky route and if I still have problems look at boosting the signal access points
Thanks for your help

It is a bit of a trek for me, having said that I imagine some sunrise shots would be really good there coupled with little traffic say 6 or 630??? or is that a little to early?

right going to start pping my wedding pictures in anger for for printing.

What do you reckon, PP on full size image then crop later or crop to print size (ie 9inx6in) first then edit?

Think I want an A4 album with 1 pic per page, for 9x6 big enough or shall I go bigger?
