I think my scanner cost me £50 in about '97, still gets used occasionally. There's nothing special about them these days, it scans at 6400 dpi which is far higher than I'll ever need, dread to think the resolutions used by modern ones.

Moire is the small spots you see when you see a scanned photo sometimes, especially if it's scanned from a newspaper/magazine.

As an example:-
QUOTED IMAGE

(it's me as a kid, BTW)

And a high resolution portion of a wedding certificate

http://the-aperture.com/Marriage-Cert-Master.jpg (external link)

The fuzziness you see is just how the ink sunk into the paper. You can see the quality of the scan though by the crinkles in the paper.

Has anyone had experience of either Sky or Virgin broadband wireless. I am looking to go for an all in one package as my current ones are all coming to an end. I am currently with BT and while the broadband service when the computer is plugged into the hub is okay the wireless is crap and I have spent many a happy hour on the phone to them and tried all sorts of jiggery pokey to sort it out.

I've had Virgin broadband, phone and tv since it was NTL so about 6 years with no real trouble. I don't know what the Virgin wireless routers like as I use thier cable modem plugged into a Buffalo wireless router and don't have any trouble with signal strength etc.

Pete - thanks for the examples and info...and hat's off to you for being brave with your pic! ;-)a ...and there's no point in photoshopping - don't forget Pete's a mod! By the time you upload it, he'll take it off! :-D

...so how do I de-moire?

BTW, for once, I wish I was at work now!...can't wait to try the scan!

Demoire is usually a function of the scanning software, so you just tick a box somewhere in the settings.
