Thanks Mike, Adrian, Chris ~ it gave me a warm glow to be judged 'well' by selectors who are not togs. They had a hard choice to make and said this in their summary "It was a very difficult one to judge, each having their own merits. It came down to personal preference in the end so these are the three we have chosen:"

@ Ian ~ nice treatment of the subject but on my monitor the blacks are way too deep especially on the legs i.e. there is very little to no definition betwen his legs and the amp and other parts of the background???

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

Im going to do my best to get the Friday off as well. If i cant, i may have to leave my gear with Adrian and train it up, but i hope it doesn't come to that! I see no reason why i cant have that day or at least a half day off as well.

adrian5127 wrote in post #8875229 (external link)
That would definitely help with missing out on rush hour, especially M25/London on a Friday

Box Brownie wrote in post #8875411 (external link)
It would be good if you can?

For sure, Friday night London area exodus is not to be taken lightly :(

We already know Ian & Rich are sharing but leaving late afternoon/early evening. Just need to know what Neal & Peter are planning by way of travelling, not sure about Adam as he is coming back on the Sunday???

The way time flies..........we will be there crawling in seal poo (I hope not ~ agh!!!) and if downwind maybe smelling "fish breath" in no time.

Hey guys, sorry I've not got back to you regarding the transport. Finalising what I'm actually doing. Now it's sorted, I'll be driving to Donna Nook from Downham Market where I'm visiting family at the time and as previously mentioned; I'll be leaving DN on the Sunday evening.

I'm happy to assist in anyones transport needs where I can.

Hugely looking forward to this meet :)

Donating used to give you the privilege of removing the ad banners. After I donated for the first time the banners disappeared. No biggie.

As far as I know, there is no link between donation and the adverts. Previously, the adverts disappeared once you had posted a number of times (I guess this happened about the same time as you dontated back then).

At this time, donating won't remove the adverts.

Weh heh!!!!!! :D :D

I have won an image competition at an aviation forum I attend ~ got first prize which will be a signed print of a BAe Hawk. This will be signed by the display team pilots themselves, well chuffed I was to see I had won :D

The comp itself was judged by the 2009 display team pilots.

This was my entry (for the record taken at the Jersey International Airdisplay on 10th Sept 2009:-

Spectacular! Well done, mate!

What kind of adverts banners or google style? I can't see them so guessing banners, though normally the web browser at work gives me a message that activex needs enabling or some bollocks for them.

Anywho has Pekka tried URL re-writing. We are using it on TalkAudio atm and it appears to be working well. Forum re-writes all urls in peoples posts and directs the user out through an affiliation site to the relevant destination. Handy when people post links to items on online stores and people use that rather than bother hunting down a link that would get affiliate money.

I'm guessing this new server we are on has cost Pekka quite a lot, he's got to get the money back somehow. I presume on views alone, without clicks, there would be some income.
Perhaps if people really want rid of them there could be a special subscription service, maybe a few dollars a month.

I have no idea. Try posting in the banner ads thread in Forum Talk and asking there.

Yeah, it was pretty expensive. This lot came out of Pekka's pocket (and of course, he has to pay the usual storage/bandwidth costs also). Pekka still wants this to be a free forum and doesn't want to force people into subscriptions. Contributing is (as always) very appreciated...!

How did you know and where did you go to pay to get rid of them, I'll gladly do that.

I see you have found it already but you should have remembered...you donated in 2007... https://photography-on-the.net …p?p=3666402&postcount=202

I've seen another mod without one, perhaps they're undercover :D

Yes, I noticed the Chief has lost his avatar and title too...strange happenings!

He's not being very forthcoming.....

Perhaps there's a break away mod faction attempting to take over POTN...

I saw it in the donation thread before I donated years ago, I'm not sure exactly which post by Pekka it was but this one outlines it:

Ahh, I see. I've donated a few times since then, not enough though if I'm honest. For such a great resource that POTN is we should give more.

I think Pete has already said that donating won't remove the ads though. Looks like we'll have to get used to them.
