Quality was good. I found my copy very soft at 300mm. On some other forums people rave about some of the Tamron kit but had no experience myself. Thanks vmlopes wrote in post #8361932 Had the 55-250 IS great lens mine was very sharp and with the IS, albeit the non USM makes it a bit noisy but very compact, would not hesitate in recommending one Couple of shots with the 55-250 ![]() ![]() cheers I must admit the Nifty 250 seems to get the most thumbs up for the price. SwitchBlade wrote in post #8362043 Chortster I replaced my kit lens with the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 and love it. For range I got a Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro when I bought my camera but at 300mm it's too soft for my liking. Got the 70-200 F4L now was £465 from Kerso and it's a far better lens (if you can cope without that little extra reach, and afford the cost). It's one of those things though, the money swiftly scales up. Were you more local I'd let you have a play of the Sigma to see how you felt with it before buying one (or selling you mine as it's unused now). Thanks for the offer but I am now thinking more towards the Canon EF-S 17 - 85mm f4-5.6 IS USM for now then perhaps the nifty 250 or better after a good month at work There is 3 types of people in the world-those that can count and those that cannot.

Get the Intel system instead of the AMD though! Also, did you receive the parcel i sent you yet Mike? +1 I was a AMD fan boy (gaming addiction) but they have lost the lead now against multi core. Laurence it was the hotel park which is right on the front. I will post a picture when I am back Rob yes the 17-40 got plenty of work, it is the first time I have really used it. I will post some more but it will have to wait for the weekend as I am off for a few days. Took over 700 and I have only scratched the surface so far so will have some late nights Subject to what TripAdvisor may have to say can I take that as a personal recommendation??? ies photos wrote in post #8361856 I had a 70-300 IS Canon as my first zoom lens, nice and compact, light and easy to carry around. Quality was good. I found my copy very soft at 300mm. On some other forums people rave about some of the Tamron kit but had no experience myself. I bought the Canon 55-200 (note the older one i.e. non IS) before we went ot SA in 2005 - I had bought the Sigma 70-300mm and took it back and tried the another two copies in the shop ~ it was irregularly either back of front focusing depending on the zoom setting ~ as the Canon 70-300 IS was delayed I got its little cousin. I was one of the first in the UK to get one and it suffered the fault reported in those first 6 months (major zoom creep and focus softness in portarit orientation but it was razor sharp up to 200 and softer (just) from about 230 to 300mm. When I got round to sending in to Canon for the recall repair they had run out of parts and replaced it with a new copy. This is also very good and corrected for the 'faults' but is also softer at the 300mm end. For the record having used a 100-400mm I do crave it and I am seriously considering selling the 70-300 to part fund the 100-400 but this (if I do) will have to wait until 2010. Could be if you have a smaller desk like mine I have a new Dell 2209WA this is a 22inch e-IPS screen and plenty big enough and would be perfect if I could sit a little further back from it KCY wrote in post #8363200 hey everyone, i'll be going to Guildford on the 10th to meet up with some friends.
