traveling to Boston/New England in August

My wife and I are traveling to Boston and New England next month. We plan on driving north up the Maine coast, and maybe swinging through New Hamphire and Vermont. Have about a week of which 3-4 days will be in the Boston area.

I was hoping there were some locals who could tell me the "must see" places for photo ops. I'd hate to travel there and miss some incredible opportunities because I failed to drive 10 miles.

Gloucester, MA - Fisherman's Memorial, Eastern Point Lighthouse, Whale Watch (any of them, actually).

Portsmouth, NH - USS Albacore Museum (Submarine), Fort Constitution, Portsmouth Harbor Light,

Kittery Maine - Outlet Stores (for the Wife ), Yummies Candy Store (VERY large candy store - for the sweet tooth)
