I'm going to be purchasing a new lens today (well used from adorama) but I am trying to decide between two lenses. Either the 200/2.8L or the 300/4L. I like shooting long so both of them should be long enough. I've owned the 200L before but never the 300L. Price difference is irrelevant and they will be going on a 1DmkII. Thoughts?

Those are great lenses. I have the 200mm 2.8 and want to get the 300 4.0. As you know, the 200mm is one sharp lens, but if I had to put myself in your shoes, I'd get the 300mm. You like shooting long, well this is longer. Plus, it has that wonderful IS. You've had the 200mm, so maybe its time to try the 300mm.

I only wish the 300mm came in that beautiful black like the 200mm does!

The 300/4L is non-IS if that makes a difference. Shake shouldn't be an issue

Without the IS, I'd still get the 300mm. In one review it was noted that the non IS version has a touch better IQ, so I don't think you can go wrong. Will your price on the 300mm without the IS be less than the 200mm? Either way, you're going to enjoy this lens!
