Seems volcanic eruptions are like buses.....you wait five years to see one, and then three come along all at the same time!

So, here's massive treat for you all today. Historically unique (in our lifetimes - I hope!) and yours truly happened to be in the right place at the right time to catch it.

If you've seen my previous post, "KAAAAAAA-BOOOOOOOM" then you've seen a stunning eruption from my very local volcano. Well, driving home yesterday from around the north of the bay, she blew her top again!

BUT THEN.....
(see next post!)

Enjoy!

Thanks for the comment. It's frightening if you're on the volcano when it blows, but I live 7km across the bay, so we "get used to it"......though the ash can be a real problem sometimes when the wind is coming from the east.

i have experienced a category 5 hurricane (1992 - Andrew) but would probably faint out of fear during an earthquake or a volcanic eruption.

Never experienced a hurricane myself but we get about 10 typhoons per year here, so I guess they're something similar?

As to earthquakes, touch wood, I've only experiences one here in 5 years. That's mainly due to living in the far south, but it was a really long wavelength one - very sick-making!!!!

But yeah, eruptions, if you look at my previous linked post of the earlier eruption this week, you'll see that Sakurajima goes off a LOT!

I'm looking at those houses down at the base of that thing...don't think that would be my choice for prime real estate location!

Thanks.
It's been such a crazy week, what with finally quitting my contract and now getting not one, but two eruption days right....and one of them being a DOUBLE! Most excellent of weeks, methinks!

One of my ex-colleagues bought one of those with her husband, and yep, she's mad as a Hatter! But they have hot water from the volcano 24hrs a day for free....which I suppose is some kind of compensation...

Are they in any actual danger because of where they live? I'd think that heavy hot ash, poisonous gases, earthquakes and maybe even lava would be concerns.

But that is an incredible picture.

Thanks for the questions and comments Stuart.

And, yes, they are in danger.
About 100 years ago, a lot of residents on the island died due to a big eruption. Thus my belief that people who live on the volcano could be certified insane!

That's amazing - as a kid I used to have nightmares about volcanos even though we live in the Midwest; too many C- science fiction movies I guess.

Insane? Bave? Oblivious? I certainly don't know. Think I'd be contacting my realtor though. Didn't they ever hear of a little place called Pompei before they signed the purchase agreement?

Truly incredible images though. Let's hope these are the most "dramatic" that you capture. ;) - Stu
