Het Stu, yeah, I think the locals just don't think about it! And as to a bigger eruption, the volcanologists keep telling us that the regular little "burps" keep the internal pressure down....so it's when she's quiet that we need to worry!

Very nice shots. I worked on St Helens 2 years after it blew and on a Sunday, a day off, I was fishing in a lake, 15 miles away, when it farted.
The soundwave was a physical force, it went through me, and it hurt my chest and my ears have never been right since. Didn't have a camera then though, but it looked like that little cloud above, only less ash in it.
Sounds about right! Though Sakurajima is too "regular" to create really massive booms!

Amazing pictures...I don't know anything about your area but was the eruption a danger to anyone? When I think of eruption I think spewing lava.
Hey Karl, the lava can come, but not for about 100 years......hmmm, maybe we're due another blast!
