I had to drive up to Ft. Nelson BC from Dawson Creek last week, and for once I spotted wildlife both going and coming! These were all taken from the car and handheld, and I'm not super happy with the sharpness (or lack thereof ;).)

On Wednesday going up we spotted this young female moose on the other side of the highway in the ditch. She was pretty skittish, and I didn't have time to put on my zoom, so these are with my 24-105, cropped about 40%.

She then moved out of the ditch and posed:

On the way back yesterday, we spotted this black bear on the right side of the road on the hill past the ditch. He was eating clover just as fast as he possibly could, and paid absolutely no attention to the cars stopping to take his picture! These were all shot from the driver's seat through the open passenger window with my 70-300 DO IS, and cropped a bit (30% to 60%) I added sharpening in DPP as is needed with the DO. They still aren't tack sharp, but the are what they are...

Wow - great timing! I love the bear images, and the moose is pretty cool too!
The bear looks almost embarassed that you caught him in the clover :)

ya, the bear does look to be a bit shy. very nice. and i like the contrast between the bright face of the moose and its dark body in the second shot.

Thanks, everyone! Yes, I feel really lucky to have been in the right place at the right time, and that the bear was brave enough to stay put while I snapped. I've lived here for 16 years, and only gotten a decent bear shot about 3 times. These are - by far - the best I've gotten (in the wild) and I'm really happy to have gotten them.

These are all very good. I remember going through that area about 5 years ago and seeing some of the same animals, but not getting shots as good.
