Well we missed Thunder Over Michigan again this year but it was well worth it. We were on the road for over two hours and waited over 7 hours to see it. And it was well worth it! The beautiful, awesome Southern Pacific Daylight rolled into Durand, Michigan on it's way to Owosso, Michigan for the 2009 Train Festival. This is/was a once in a lifetime chance to see it in person. We were able to get right up to it and take all the pictures we wanted. From the front, sides, back, and on several tracks with several backgrounds. It was fantastic!

Good ones, Jon, but you waited over 7 hours, were able to "take all the pictures we wanted", & only came up with three shots? ;)

Yep! By the time I got these three processed I was already on rum number two. Can't you tell by my PP work? I've got a couple hundred more but need to get them processed and posted...

Here's one more right now though...

Nice shots Jon, I wanted to go there also but couldn't make it. I do though have tickets for Thursday's all day excursion riding it for a 4 hour run north. Should be a cool adventure. I got a thing for trains like many do. Love the depot at sunset. Cheers!

Pretty shot. Are those three shiny spots in the distance a train? It's a "Train Festival", right? Right? ;)

I'll be there this weekend. I'll have shots to share of my chase of 4449 here in a little bit. Good work!

Frank, those shiny spots look to be the empty coal cars sitting in the yard. Trainfestival is another 5-10 miles to the north of Durand.

NKP 765 has arrived as of this evening. Too bad GLC did not let her lead..... :(
Waited for it in Howell, shots are not anything exciting seeing as it was behind two diesels....

If anyone gets any shots from the Train Fest please post them. We aren't going to fight the crowds they are expecting for this event.

Also, make note, Friday, July 31st. The Daylight will be heading west again (for home). It will leave Durand station at 12:00 noon with a load of passengers heading for Chicago. I think I will try making another trip out there to get some shots in better lighting.

Mike, lets see some of those NKP shots! I wish I could have seen that come in too.

Jon.

Edit: The rums all gone!

One more quick one. Not a great shot but it gives you the bigger picture.

Jon, you have quite a bit of time left to get out and shoot 765 as it will be in Owosso until October.
