Hi guys and gals,

So I just read a thread from a couple of years ago stating that with the 30D you can use cards larger than 8GB, but you can not format them in the camera. Is this information correct?

Thanks!

your correct. the 30D could use a card bigger than 8GB, but you had to format them in another canon camera or computer

but that problem was fixed in long ago. i'm using 1.0.6 firmware and have no problem formating my 12GB sandisk card in my 30D

never used more then 4gb personally.. too much of a risk if the card fails as few mention on here.. better having more smaller cards then 1 huge..mainly for burst speed transfer if anything.. not to mention the cost!!! :)

Cost isn't a big deal lately, but the size varies on your camera. A 4GB is nothing on a 5D so you get what picture you're comfortable with, not the card size. Different relevance.

i personally use 4 2GB sandisk cards. but like the convience of a bigger card cause you dont have to change cards as often.

but for those trying to look for the biggest capacity card they could put in their camera, this site might be useful... http://www.gronjord.com/daniel/faq/english.asp#A.1 (external link)
