Thanks to all the participants in this week's challenge, "Take a Walk". What I was looking for in evaluating the challenge was your interpretation of "...your challenge is to go out and take a picture of something in a way that most people don't see it. Look for the unusual in the everyday and see what you can find..."
With that in mind, here are some comments on the entries (in the order posted).
Mike53545 - "Ready for Take off" - This is a nice, colorful shot of a butterfly on a flower. I wish it had been from the front, but maybe a partial "moon" shot was what you were going for. The leaf in the lower left was a bit distracting to the rest of the photo, so keep an eye out for that next time.
Flo - "Sand Salmon" - Before I even saw the title, I thought that it looked like a fish! That's definitely an unusual item (on a beach I guess?) that many folks probably didn't think twice about as they stepped over it.
Jason C - "paths of travel"- The leading lines of the tracks combined with the simple partial branch on top made for nice composition. It's a nicely simple shot, and black & white works well with it; however, the lighting seems a little flat to me. Maybe a little more side lighting would have made the tire tracks stand out a little bit more.
John B - "Vampire Night"- I had to look at this several times to try to figure out if the bug was eating the snail or if the snail was after the bug, and I still don't know! This is definitely something we don't see every day (thank goodness)!
Cuypers1808 - "The Manure Mobile" - I'm sure this is something that the truck owner does all the time, but if you hadn't said it in the title, I wouldn't have known it was a poo trailer. Maybe more of a shot from the back of the trailer with a little steam rising (I don't mean to gross anyone out here) would have brought out the subject a bit more.
Daniel2000 - "ant point of view" - A nice take on the theme for this week...shooting something we see all the time from a different perspective. Too bad mother nature didn't cooperate and give you a nice blue sky background. The parts of the leaves and the fence to the left were a bit distracting to an otherwise nice composition.
JLatimer - "Driver/Pedestrian Conflicts" - Every time I see this I laugh. This was a great take on the idea with a twist on the subject. She's a cutie and the expression priceless! I might clone the pole out of the top of her head though.
BigSteve - "Horsin' around the trees" - I hope it's not too often you see skulls in the trees around your area. That one's been there for a while judging from the moss on it. This was definitely an unusual subject!
Ducklabdad - "Morning walk in the City Park" - This was a pretty shot. I wish I had a view like that to look at in the mornings. I like the lighting effect of the sun behind the fountain.
MSJGD - "Walking at Winsor Castle Last Sunday" - I feel like I should know who this is, but I confess I don't. Putting her in the context of the Castle makes me thjnk she must have something to do with royalty, unless she's just an elderly woman walking in front of an old castle. Still, she seems to fit in nicely. I like the color of her outfit against the gray walls.
fryfoto - "Tiny Lawn Web" - I'll guarantee most people don't take time to look for these little webs much less really "see" them. I like the abstractness of the numerous globes. You have just the right amount of DOF in the shot. Nice photo!
NeverSummer - I don't know what malls you go to, but apparently the musical zombies hang out there! I'd expect to see this more around Halloween time!
And my choice for the winners this week based on the theme:
3rd (tie) - Flo and "Sand Salmon" and Fryfoto with "Tiny Lawn Web" (liked 'em both!)
2nd - John B and "Vampire Night"
and
1st goes to JLatimer and "Driver/Pedestrian Conflicts". That title & expression just won me over. Congratulations!
Thanks again to all the participants!!
