yeah, I'm all about weird tanlines... I try to wear long sleeves as much as possible and lube up when out in the sun but sailing does a number on anything you throw at the sun. The water just bounces the light around too much.

Anyway, here's a few more shots:
my L-bracket and the CC button on a clamp:

IMAGE: http://gear.benjacobsenphoto.com/wp-content/gallery/nikkor-14-24mm/img_2217.jpg

I'm thinking of tapping the left bend of the bracket in that last shot... That would lower the CC button and also make it impossible for it to fall off. Doing so leaves me the same amount of clamping surface as using the current button on that clamp alongside my current lever clamp on my head. It'd just be one less piece which would be nice (weight and height).

here's a shot of me wearing it this weekend:

^ the one downside is Elias would/could kick the camera... If I slid it forward it would bounce off my thigh. Not the CC's fault, but something I had to watch for.

I'm still torn on the whole L bracket -vs- grip -vs- grip with the L and where to put the button. I'm pretty sure I'll be tapping my L bracket for the cotton carrier to screw into this week so I can get rid of the small RRS clamp. But I'm also considering doing that same idea with the L bracket for the grip and just leaving it on the grip all the time. That'd mean I'd have to use the grip when shooting my landscapes, but it's generally in the bag anyway for the spare battery (since it can take AAs). It's just that I like slim bags and using the camera with the grip makes that a bit of an issue (although because the D700 is narrower than my 5Dii was, putting it in sideways isn't that bad).

Nice shots there Jacobsen. What a beautiful place.

2 shots from me: I put a lowepro water bottle holder on the left, and the holster on the right. Bottle goes behind my shoulder when shooting so as not to block my shoulder movement.

Jacob those last shots were perfect. Wow, it hangs lower than I thought it would. Think a long lens would suck on that as is might be banging your knee? Still looks great though. Love the monopod idea.

I'm becoming a pretty big fan of the Cotton Carrier too. Really like it.

BTW, great images - I love the "fish on a stick" idea. I'm going to give that one a try too.

Hi CC owners,

Can the 'holster' go on the left side? All the pictures I have seen so far show it attached on the right side - so I was just wondering.

Txs!

It can, but the vest is made for it to attach to the right side. The left side has a buckle on it. I just tried it out and I don't think it would be a problem using it on the left side of the vest.

It is awkward having it on the left side, especially with a camera on the chest holster.

You of course could use it on your belt (without the vest).

Thanks Derek,

Since I grab my camera at the lens with my left hand, I always have it hanging by it's strap on my left shoulder. I was just wondering if it would be easier to have it on the left side on the CC too.

And yes, one more thing I like about the CC is - I keep my strap really short so it would approximately be close to where the CC holster attaches!

Thanks once again.

-Sam

OK, so I broke down and tapped my RRS L bracket for the CC button to sit off center. Much lower profile now which is awesome. If anyone wants a B2-mAS OR the CC RSS inserts, let me know. Tapping my plate means I can use the normal screw as well as lose the screw clamp...

do you think that tapping the RRS lowered the integrity of the RRS plate very much? ( I have not gotten an RRS plate for my camera yat, but it is on my to-buy list, along with the CC) tapping the plate sounds like a great Idea to me as long as it's not going to weaken the plate much. obviously you figured it wouldn't weaken it too much but I wanted to see what you think of it now that you have done it.

Thank you all for forcing me to add yet another peice of expensive gear to my list hahhaha  LOL

^ I seriously doubt it. I actually emailed them first, they said they'd check but I got impatient.... They also said they're working on something for/like the CC FYI... ;)

But with the D700 bracket in particular, there's a TON of "meat" on the left end before it bends up. If you compare that to other sections of the bracket even with the hole it's MUCH thicker. So it can't really be an issue IMHO. I'll have to snag picks, but don't hold your breath....

Putting a fairly small round hole in something doesn't reduce its structural integrity by much.

Most of the RRS L brackets are already drilled for hole on both sides of the bracket. Are you putting this in yet another place?

I've found one serious problem with the Cotton Carrier. I've found that being able to carry two bodies/lenses is so easy that I want to carry a third body/lens. Now I have to figure out if I want to buy another holster, or if I'm just a huge nutcase.

I just sent Andy C some shots of me using the rig on a recent wildlife shoot trip.
Used 3 gripped bodies...I can tell you it works great and beats trying to do it with any strap(s) setup.

:D

If you find reaching for that bottle a little tough while shooting...try the Camelback 32 ounce hard plastic water bottle (tapered shape/pop up spout). They make a bite valve hose adapter for it.

I use that with the hose over the shoulder and clipped to one of the CC rigs shoulder "D" rings. No more reaching for the bottle. Don't know why nalgene doesn't try to come up with something similar.
