Caught the Royal Artillery's Flying Gunners motorcycle display team at Holkham Hall in Norfolk at the weekend.

Some fairly fancy riding involved and fairly big jumps too, building up to jumps over 4 cars.

Probably too cautious with the shutter speed I guess as there's not much sense of motion in the shots but wasn't too sure what to go with so just opened up the aperture as wide as poss in AV mode as the light wasn't great and didn't stop to check the resulting shutter speed.

I'm fairly pleased for my first attempt at tracking high speed targets though.

What do you reckon?

Good stuff. The time to experiment with shutter speeds is with traffic near your home, not at an event like this? ;)

Cheers Frank.

TBH I didn't even know they were going to be there, we'd simply gone for a day out with the kids at Holkham Hall country fair:

The Flying Gunners were announced as the next event following some pony racing, dog trials and a marching band so it wasn't even as though I could have done any prep prior to them coming out on the arena!

I guess it all depends on the speed of the vehicle as it's passing, but what's suggested shutter speed for these kind of panning shots, around 1/250 or something?

Just realised that I had quite a nice sequence going on with one of the jumps so combined them to make this multiplicity style shot:

Very nice. You did a great job combining them.

Thanks guys, I simply used the Photomerge Panorama command and tweaked one of the masks to paint a rider in on one frame where it had excluded him.
