I was just wondering if the EX speedlights mounted on the G6 responded performed in a similiar fashion, ie EOS sticky info on flashs could be read and related to a G6, 420 or 550ex configuration?

Ive been reading the EOS flash bible under the EOS forums and found it to be a well written and informative article. Some of the information which i am mindful and a little unclear on are the following

With an external flash mounted on an EOS camera, the following modes of flash occur.

P mode, flash automatically operates in fill mode when exposure level is greater than EV13. Below this, the flash operates as main flash and lighting for scene.

Tv mode, flash automatically operates in fill mode.

Av mode, flash automatically operates in fill mode.

Manual, aperture and shutter settings expose for scene lighting, with flash automatically metering and providing correct lighting for foreground subject.

I played around with my G6 last night after digesting this and in taking a number of indoor photos, (withough slow synchro ie off), in P and Av mode, the camera defaulted to 1/60sec in every case. This would lead me to believe that despite the G6 being compatible with ETTL flash, that the creative zones while coupled in flash mode do not perform the same.

The only way that i was able to get someoo correlation with the above information (EOS flash bible info) was to switch slow synchro on.

But with slow synchro on, i get rather orangish / redish casts in my shots. Im aware of flash light being rather bluish /white and hence the difference, but any takes on taking slow synchro shots without the cast im getting. (im shooting under a light bulb setting and my white balance was already set to tungsten.

The EOS bible states"
"This difference in colour temperature is particularly noticeable with slow shutter sync photography. If you take a photo indoors using slow shutter sync with flash and daylight-balanced film, you’ll get a normally coloured subject with strange orange-yellow fringing. This results from the subject being illuminated brightly by the daylight-balanced flash and then any motion blur from the slow shutter being illuminated dimly by tungsten light"

Problem is that im sure i had white balance set to tungsten, and received some slight colour casting in the image (orangish) the flash was head on without a diffuser.

Anyone with this problem?

Ill try to post some images tonight showing my colour cast problem.
