Explain Something to me

How do "people" like this get credentials. (she was not there shooting for a team, sponsor etal). but she did make a mess out of a few of my pans.

This weekend a "photographer" was killed during a rally. He didn't have credentials, but he still went where no-one was allowed to go and ignored all orders to leave the spot. Before security had a chance to forcefully remove him, the second racecar went straight off the road an hit him at full speed... I'll spare you the gruesome details.

So not only can people like that ruin shots, they can ruin their own and other peoples lives aswell.

Because the guys with earned credentials can get their buddy a pass every so often. That being said, the pro should be giving guidance about locations and behaviour.

But having said that, I heard something worse at the weekend at the track when talking with some spectators after the race about photography.

Apparently, someone with them behind the fence had a good angle at a hairpin and was taking photos through the fence. A pro saw him doing this and intentionally stood in the way (actually looked over his shoulder to make sure too). That's pretty unforgivable in my book.

Haha, I saw that lady in her crazy umbrella setup walking around the food area. Thank goodness I didn't have her wandering in to my shots.

I've seen that done. There are some very petty people out there. I've been on both sides of the fence in my life and I always try to be courteous to working pros and to the public. Once in a great while, there have been times when myself and other pros have had no choice but to work from a position that blocked the audience view, but I have seen some shooters with credentials go and block a view intentionally--so it's done.

I've never seen a P&S with a lens/lens hood that size. How do you know she was not legit?

At virtually every F1 or MotoGP race I go to, anywhere in Europe, I see people wandering about in places I'd kill to be allowed to shoot from. I have no idea who they are or how they get permission. They tend not to be photographers, just spectators.

Yes, I've seen a "pro" do that at a venue. One did it to me once. I also ensured that said "pro" got a bollocking for it and was told in no uncertain terms not to do it again or it would be their last time at the venue. The paying public does have rights, you know

Very often it IS necessary for a pro to get in the general public's way to get a shot. We all understand that and can live with it. They have a job to do and and editor to satisfy/ Being deliberately obstructive is something completely different and is unacceptable. The best pro photographers don't do it and I've had some of the biggest and best known of them all offer to go and tell newbies to clear my shot lines.

Oh and how do you get credintials and only have a sony POS I mean P&S to shoot with?

that looks like BMP. There was another lady out by the kink, in shorts and sleeveless shirt taking pictures, she had credentials too, but did not look like she knew what she was doing at all. I wanted to trade places with her.

I suspect, that sometimes, they are with one of the race teams, and are the team photog, and get access that way.

I am still outside the fence, but at BMP, that is not a bad thing.

That doens't look like a P&S to me, I'm pretty sure that's a 70-200L peaking out from under the umbrella.

No idea about the credentials part though

I did that at this race but was a respectul as I could be.

It is BMP. What day did you see the lady in the shorts. If it was Friday then it is the same lady.

She did not have a POS. I did not shot a photo of him. I just grinned and asked the track photographer why?

And how I know is I had conversation with her on Friday. She was there to be there. I was curtious and explained a few nice places to shoot from and the best focal length to use. I was real nice to her but just pissed when she killed a couple of my pans.

the lady I saw was during the races on Sunday. Kinda heavyset lady, and she did not move very fast, and she walked right into a couple of my shots. She was stationing out of the Turn 11 flag station...

Reminds me of the problem one "pro" photographer caused both me and the other members of the public beside me but most important of all another pro.

During the racing this pro stood between me and the circuit blocking any chance of me seeing let alone taking photos of the riders. However, he slowly moved to one side allowing me a clear shot but right into the path of the pro standing a few feet to my right. At this point the second pro went up to him and with a visible sign of anger (wagging finger) told him what he was doing wrong and where to go. The situation returned to normal except the "pro" proceeded to enter a "danger" zone (corner run off) at which point the marshals told him off, pro exited area soon after.

As I sometimes shoot for a driver racing in the Scotland I have been able to get a pass for that but I ensure I don't obstruct the real pros or upset the marshals. If I can also keep out the way of the spectators I will (common courtesy I hope is returned when I am on the other side of the fence).

Goodwood festival of speed is the worst for random fat f**kers sat right on the track with P&S, they could easily stand the other side of the track not in the way of the spectators who cant walk around the car.

I have however got a pass for the red bull xfighters in london, woop

"I'll shoot for free if you give me credentials"
Found an online web resource that would give her credentials or vouch for her.

It's that whole "it's not what you know it's who you know" statement. Unfortunate really but I've come to enjoy shooting from "behind the fence" as it gives me more wiggle room.
