My local photo store had a used 5D for $950 about 4 months ago. It was sold in a couple of days. Good luck!

Too much stuff, not enough shooting time.

Canon T4i (2 lenses), Fuji X100s, Olympus OM-D EM-1 (3 lenses)

I bought a 5D off my friend a month or whatever it was ago.

$8500 HKD (about $1100 USD) less than 6 months old, only about 3000 clicks. Perfect condition (the flash shoe has some minor wear).

That was a reasonable and good deal.

Re: the OP...

$850 for all that... the guy could just not know what it's worth, or sometimes people just need the money and don't want to hassle waiting for someone to pay a "fair" price.

My local shop sells em used for $1300 with a 60 day return policy. $1417 after tax :(

I think im going to end up waiting till the mark III/6d whatever comes out -- then I can get a 5d < $1000. In the mean time i'll get some glass.

I wish I could just use one for a week and see if its really worth the money.

Rent one and see if you like it. They don't cost much to rent for a week or a month.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Just wait for the day you're ripped off and then we'll see what you say to the situation.

Have you been ripped off? I mean physically held up and had your money taken?

There are so many scams on CL nowadays though.

Compared to how many good deals there are, the scams must amount to what, 1/10th of 1%?

Every heard of Chicken Little? The moral was, don't believe everything you hear and none of what you read. There is nothing wrong with caution, but to go through life fearing the worst from your neighbor just isn't healthy.

If you take cash to a deal, leave it locked in the car until you assess the threat. That's pretty simple.

You can get good deals on Ebay. I got a full frame Canon (almost new) on Craigslist. All the guy wanted was a cigarette. Great deal. ;)

Thank you. bw!

As far as I know, only Canon can tell you how many clicks are on the camera....so even if this is legit, how can you be sure it is 17,000 without taking it to a Canon service center.

Half the people here posted worries about meeting people in public to make a deal. My comment was to point out how childish that is. What I disagree with is people filled with terror of meeting other people in public, advising anyone on anything.

The OP was worried about making a bad deal because he didn't know what to look for when examining a camera, not that he was going to get robbed.

You didn't here about the guy in Cleveland ohio who was selling 1dMKIIIs and when the people would show up to try the camera out they brought lenses and such, the people got robbed at gun point and their lenses and other equipment were taken. I live in Cleveland and have seen some of the scams, quit being a hard head, it happens, things happen. I wouldn't be scared to go meet someone if they sound legit, but thats why I always take my bro with me and a few weapons.

In all seriousness, I found a scam on Craigslist here in Atlanta.

I wanted a Rebel XS (ended up buying one for $534 at Best Buy).

On Craiglist one was advertised fro $350 brand new (still in box). So I sent a reply and the person said, "Wire the money and I'll send the camera."

I wrote, "wire the money? Where are you?"

He said he was in Washington D.C. So I asked him why he was advertising in Atlanta and why he wanted the money wired instead of Paypal. He said his paypal account was locked temporarily.

So, of course, I wrote to him and said, "I think you're trying to scam people. What you are doing is unethical and wrong. You should know better."

He pulled the ad and I never heard from him again.

Thank you. bw!

I disagree with people like you giving advice on anything to anyone also. I must be hard headed about some things.

I bought my 5D on craigslist and I met the guy in a crowded starbucks. Brought the whole 1500$ with me. Tested the camera and everything, That's pretty much it.

The people who say they would bring weapons kinda scare me actually. I someone brought a weapon I would get pretty intimidated and would probably just forget about the deal. But then again I live in canada so it could be a little different.
