Half the people here posted worries about meeting people in public to make a deal. My comment was to point out how childish that is.

You must live in a very safe city.

You didn't here about the guy in Cleveland ohio who was selling 1dMKIIIs and when the people would show up to try the camera out they brought lenses and such, the people got robbed at gun point and their lenses and other equipment were taken. I live in Cleveland and have seen some of the scams, quit being a hard head, it happens, things happen. I wouldn't be scared to go meet someone if they sound legit, but thats why I always take my bro with me and a few weapons.

I live in Cleveland. I'd be very careful, as others here have stated.

You must live in a very safe city.

I do live in a very safe city, now. I grew up in South side Chicago, I have lived and worked in many large cities throughout my life and never had the attitude I see so much today. I won't say I have not been ripped off a few times, but guess by who? People I called friends and knew very well. I seem to be able to know when strangers are lying to me before it ever gets to far along and just don't fall into it. Can't you?

Though I too see the typical scams....I see more like this: a listing of an XT body for $350 and an XSI for $1200 (tho it has a 70-300mm $450 lens with it)....I see more outragously HIGH prices than I see obvious scams...

I disagree with people like you giving advice on anything to anyone also. I must be hard headed about some things.

Why because I protect myself? I take my brother, and a knife. It isn't like I am bringing a big bouncer and a sawed-off shot gun.

So you probably know what I am saying, a guy holding people at gun point for their lenses and such and then we have a fellow on here saying trust everyone! Yep, Ill trust everyone on craigslist just because they've sent me an email. I am very trusting but after seeing this guy right in my hometown with all crazy scams and robbing people I became a little less trusting.

Someone listed a used 5d with grip for 800 on Craiglist (in my state) just a couple days ago. He sent me photos of the camera (which looked in great condition) and also said someone offered him 875. Next day he told me he sold it.

850 is not totally insane.

BTW, I bought mine (with grip) a few months ago from local Craiglist for 1050 and I thought it was a good price.

Okay people. The thread just got a bit shorter. From now on, let's play nice and stay on topic, shall we?

Have you met him yet? Some of those deals are hard to catch because they sell so fast.

Just wait for the day you're ripped off and then we'll see what you say to the situation.

^ I agree, unfortunately.

I sold a 5d on craigslist about 6 months ago and met the guy in a Burger King. We had a cup of coffee and chatted it up for a bit and he paid me the 1300 right there in the lobby

At least he didn't follow you to his car and have his bodyguard take the money back! :D :D

I know a friend of a friend that was actually mugged (nearly $2000) in this kind of a group-sting operation.

It can happen. If you're doing the buying or selling, make sure the other guy isn't calling all of the shots.

Not paranoid....just safe! ;);)
