Hello. Went and photographed a mate's band playing a gig in a Belfast (Northern Ireland/UK) bar yesterday. It's only the third time I've done gig photography and I'm very pleased with the results. Below is a selection of the best images from the entire night. I have made a different gallery for each band that where playing that night.

EXIF 1D MKII, 24-70 L 430EX
Most of the shots have flash
ISO is either 1600 or 3200
Shutter speed range from 1/4 - 1/80

Processing done in LR, using a custom made process. Some images have a cross process effect. Little noise reduction and a sharpen.

My personal favourite of the night is shot 24 followed by number 16 of Ashfall.

Overall, a very nice series on both bands. Quite a few of them are quite soft, but at the shutter speeds you shot, that is to be expected. By your description, I expected a lot of the shots to be too harshly lit [as you used flash], but to my delight, that is not the case. The lighting is actually quite good, in my opinion. Well done on both galleries!

I'm impressed how sharp most of them are at those shutter speeds. My only complaint with them is that many of the subjects are centered in the frame which can make the image a little static.

Yes a few of them are a little soft at 100% and show a little movement, subject and myself but considering the light conditions I'm happy. The flash was about 2stops underexposed and shot upwards to prevent the washed out images you see from some gig photography.

Ok I'll work on the composition of the image next time. I might be able to crop these a little differently but I suppose it's best to get it down as the image is being taken.

Thanks it was uber dark.

Thanks for the comments guys. Far more constructive than some of the forums I have posted these on. :)

I like the first.
I don't like the last...

#2 doesn't tell much, and #3 is cropped odd.

Thanks did you have a look at the galleries? Any general tips or advice you could offer would be appreciated.
