A week ago our family was blessed with a healthy baby boy, Ian Gabriel. It's crazy to think that there is no way we could love someone as much as we love our 5yr old daughter, and then comes Ian. Because I come from a big family, it's a great feeling knowing my daughter is finally a big sister, and that eventually Ian will bug the heck out of her.

These are Ian's first portraits and my first ever newborn session. I look forward to many more sessions with him. C&C appreciated on how I did for my first newborn session. Thanks.

Great stuff!

Can I ask how you shoot the overheads but keep the black still black and the baby nicely exposed?? Or do you have to burn/dodge in PP??

Stunning. Really great images. Any lighting setup/fill flash or was it all natural.

For the first shot, I used window light, and then bounced my flash off the ceiling using Radiopoppers. I was standing on a chair, shooting down, and had a brown fleece blanket underneath the basket. In photoshop, I converted to B&W, I used levels to darken up the blacks, and then just used some masking to bring him back. The 2nd & 3rd shots were also window lighting and bounced fill flash w/radiopoppers. I converted in Lightroom to a sepia tone, and then added textures in CS3. # 4, natural lighting. Converted in Lightroom and processed in CS3. #5 was shot with 430exII in a Westcott 28x28 box just outside of view. Triggered w/Radiopoppers. Thanks for the comments.

I forgot to mention that it was because of "swimchic" that inspired me to do these kind of shots. Although I'm far from her talent w/newborns, I wanted to give it a try. Thanks "swimchic" for the inspiration.
