Bear in mind...that is just lenses, flashes and spare batteries...my cameras and their mounted lenses go in Toploader 75 AW's.

Geez.

I put my foot down when weight goes over a certain point. Simply NOT interested in carrying that amount of gear.

I guess I should have strapped the tripod on...just to see what that adds to the package.

Because the 100 macro has FTM, USM and internal focus for not a lot more money :p (B&H pricing) and it's a real Canon too...

I just read how useful FTM is on certain lenses in certain situations. I never use it on my ultrawides or my standard zoom, but on long tele's and on macros, it was recommended that I 'guide' the focus to the approximate area and let AF pick up the rest, resulting in much faster AF. I've been doing this with the 60 macro for a long time and probably would not appreciate having to switch to MF. Also, no more DC focus drive stuff for me - has to be USM/HSM. Tamron has no ultrasonic technology.

True but the Tamron focuses faster even w/o it and locks on focus even in the lowest of lights...I know you are prejudice against Tamron, but sometime just TEST the lens. It outshoots my husband's canon macro, in both color and saturation and focuses faster. Sharpness to the edges is about the same.

Hey Wool do you know where Wu's been tonight? It was so quiet around here with both of you gone....we resorted to talking photography....no hot tubs or candle light...just tripods and lens weight....

Just beware, some people have had problems with image quality, with the camera sometimes out doing the lens. I hurd the same thing from those that use the 1Ds series cameras. You might end up spending more on lens. eeek.

That's okay. Most of my lenses are either primes or L's. I'd rather save for an L lens than buy a consumer one. The Tamron I have is a good one, though.

Hey Yoda....weighed my backpack today....26.3 pounds.

I bet mine fully loaded is almost twice that. I just keep it in the trunk and load the smaller bag from it.

Not me. Mine's a Dynatran, and it's very heavy. No way I could even lift the bag with it attached.

I gotta go to bed. I'm not going to want to get up in a little over three hours. Night, all!

I haven't seen her since this afternoon...she was going to have a beer and unwind...I am hoping it helped her get some sleep....she needed it.

I don't even want to know what my Pelican that holds most of the stuff weighs...that goes in the back of the car...and the backpack just holds whatever is essential for the shooting that time out...

Yes, I hope she got some rest too!

I have a Delsey Pro that I store all my gear in...and do the same thing with my backpack. The velbon CF tripod is light enough to haul but the SLIK...it could be used to anchor an angry mastiff and wouldn't budge...it's a monster...I'd sell it (because we never use it) but shipping would break me    It's bigger/sturdier than my husband's telescope tripod :)

oh, and Wool, why do you keep changing your gear sig? I wouldn't know it except LS keeps posting your new stuff....:) :) :)

I trust my eyes to Brand X...I have N*k*n lenses. I did the Instamatic conversion myself...all that you need is a pair of needle nose pliers, a roll of duct tape and guts from an S1IS.

And I am once again alone with the crickets.....

*CRICKETS CHIRPING*

PG.. before you go... and before the crickets drown you out... think of some scenarios in which you'd like to use flash and get back to me. See if there is anything I can pass on to you.

Yes master.. occasionally some of your underlings come up a coherent thought when your illustrious presence is not here... :D

Hey, any familiarity with the gimbal tripod mounts for lenses?

Yup.. the 5D is pretty sweet, you can get ready-to-use results out of it quite often, I do. If Canon follows the 18 month cycle, the 5D may be replaced early next year. Mine will most certainly NOT be on the used market though :D

If they replace the 5D I will pick one up just the second that the price drops.. :D :D .. I want that dang camera!!
