Sis can read Jap. I just flip to the English section.. I am supposed to be multilingual, but believe me, the only words I recall from my other languages are the ones that people don't want to hear ;)

I always said, better to know and master just one language, than to know two or three and be incompetent in all. (there are some people whom I've worked with who are the latter.. no kidding.. including their main working language)

I hate weddings and I hate funerals. I don't even go unless I *AM* the, uhh, "guest of honor". Weddings - after all, I'm not the one who's happy (in fact I'm the one who's NOT happy), funerals - not time to bury me yet..

I take it you've never been to any funerals then have you? (though if you keep razzing me about the flash, I could arrange for one...  j/k) It's probably best if you are uni-lingual then...rather than obscene in several languages   At least, IMO ;)

Actually, I have buried people. It has been TREMENDOUSLY draining on me. It's bad enough having to send others off, it is far worse watching everybody break down around you. Thank god I don't expect any more in the near future.

The thread "take DSLR to family funeral?" is just wierd. I wouldn't even take myself if I could. I'll pay my respects in my own way which is more meaningful to me.

All does not appear to be right with the world.

I am awake when I should be peacefully sleeping.
Wu's laptop keyboard isn't working.
Taco Bell's onions have ecoli.
oh, and the first lady plus 3 different guests wore the same $8,500 dress to the white house Christmas party...

I was under the impression that once Dante got his 1dsmkII back, that equilibrium would result and Nirvana would be achieved....

I think we need to put in a service call somewhere...

Add a few more to the list...

A major regional fire has cut off road access to one of the areas I was thinking of visiting this weekend (the weekend photo op)
I am looking at a 24-70 - my 24-105 is about to smack me for cheating on it
And lunch sucked.. the food was great.. having to eat and run under pressure was not..

Trouble ticket has been lodged. They tell me "We're working on it."

Well, while the tekkies attempt to realign things, I think I'll go back to bed in hopes "to sleep, perchance to dream...aye there's the rub"

night (again)

*crickets continue chirping*

Oh, and BTW, someone has specifically recommended against the use of a Sidekick gimbal head with the 100-400. Says it's not very comfortable. I get the feeling I am going to have to suck it and see, but I am not willing to put $250 on the line to find out even though I can resell it.

Ahahahaa.. you have good taste! But kiss that Tamron goodbye.. it is a digital 1.6X-only lens. (not saying this because of prejudice either.. would have said the same thing to a Canon EF-S owner, and my much loved 10-22 was a casualty of that upgrade decision..)

Your 28-105 will be nice.. it is a great focal length. However the 5D will be absolutely brutal to it.. you'll get the feeling it never looks sharp only because you are able to blow up an image so much more than with the XT.

The L and the 50 (barring its subpar focus drive) will shine though...

i'm aware of the EF-S on the Tammy and that will have to be re-evaluated... Is the 28-75 EFS as well? the 28-105 will probably stick around but won't be a major contender on a 5D the L will be lovely and I will more than likely pick up the 85mm 1.8 for the 5D either that or the 50mm 1.4 on a full frame I probably won't have the same issues with the legnth that I do on the XT but this is all in theory anyway... I may pick up the 30D to let the crop work for me while i'm in Africa and then go FF when I come home... lots of time to decide...

28-75 is a full EF mount, will work on the 5D. It'll feel like the 17-50 as far as focal length is concerned, so no big issue there.

Crop would probably be nice in Africa. That way you can hang on to your 17-50 as well. Shooting a long lens on a crop camera is a blast.. definitely the way to go :)

Either that or keep the XT for Africa, the 30D offers no substantial improvements in image quality, then think about the upgrade when you get back. No point selling camera bodies, they depreciate way too fast.. unlike glass, the cameras are now subject to the computer-style depreciation curves - a race to the bottom! the silver lining, I suppose, is that you can make this work for you, by waiting on the 5D.

The primes will work out, as you have imagined.

Do you have a flash or need a flash? The 5D has no onboard - they sacrificed that for the much bigger and brighter pentaprism. I used to think it was an issue, not so much nowadays.

Have a good day today Sari...though I'm not sure what a bartender does during the day?

I have insomnia...I WANT to be asleep but I can't ....so now I'm just facing the "fear the crickets" I apparently have just acquired...

blah! I don't tend bar I wait tables... there's a rule in place that states everyone working in fine dining or the lounge also has to pull shifts downstairs in the breakfast/ casual dining restaurant... so my weeks kind of rotate.. Right now due to lack of bartenders/servers I share the bar with my good friend Jess.. one week upstairs one week downstairs for some strange reason I have this shift smack dab in the middle of my bar shifts.. So, closed the lounge last night opened breakfast this morning tomorrow off and back to the lounge on Saturday...

PG: I absolutely detest not being able to sleep when I need to as well.. it does happen to me.

"So tired that I can't sleep" - yes, true. Happens to me. Hate it. Go work on your flash technique.

Sari: I'm on the other end of the world, our time zones are different, so 'night shift on POTN' would actually be quite reasonable hours for me while the US is largely asleep. It's still a while from midnight here.

And 4 hours of sleep and you can still work a customer service position - I'd bite whoever messed up or gave me a hard time! You have my respect for being able to go in and still smile :)

trust me. I'm not at my best in the mornings. the only good thing I can say is that the alarm will wake me up and I will be here.. whether I'll trip over my feet, fall asleep organizing menus or generally walk around like a zombie I can't say.. Ofcourse there is the little matter of my very akward and I am now believing unnecessary decision to give up coffee... (what was I thinking  ) that contributes quite a bit... it takes me about three to four hours before i'm human after waking up.. and the more i'm thinking about it the more I want an espresso maker for Christmas.. and then I think back a few months ago and I was sure there was a real reason behind my not wanting to have my usual three double shots with foam a day... But it's 6:40 in the morning and now is not the time to try to go on a mission of self discovery..

I have an old speedlight that I bought from the lady in my camera store works very well so no complaints about it.. I will absolutely keep my XT there's no reason to give it up and in Africa atleast when I buy either the 100-400 or the bigma the crop will absolutely be to my advantage.. but, whether I pick up a 5D for the trip as well for the 'everything not telephoto related' category has yet to be determined.. I do like the idea of the primes but, again time and income will tell...

No, it is not a good time I agree.. spoil yourself, get a small cup of coffee.

I definitely need mine to kickstart the day - I suspect I am a road hazard on the move without sufficient caffiene, so the justifications are very clear cut. When I'm not working I drink less, generally one coffee a day is fine and most likely another coke somewhere in the afternoon. When I am, it depends on the stress level.. some days all bets are off and the coffee is unlimited. Thankfully those are days are few and far between...

I like it way toooo much.. I don't like regular cofee though (it tastes watered down to me) i'm more of an espresso girl and there the trouble lies... very addictive stuff. I was getting a bit extreme with it before I left home and if memory serves I was becoming a little concerned at my dependence... Hence the decision to lay off of it... But, months later I still haven't quite gotten used to going without. this could either mean one of two things either I should give up the fight go back to my twelve dollar a day coffee habit or that I truly did have myself stuck on it and it's a good thing i've quit.....

Flash should be fine if it works on your XT.. the XT and 1-4 are a blast, I was just playing with that combo. Still value my XT even though I have the big guns. 640mm at f/5.6 on the long end is FUN!!

It's also interesting.. I've travelled to the US before (Yellowstone, where I got my SLR calling), and I found that the 'normal' coffee over there is very, very different from the normal stuff here, where it's thick, black and strong, similar to the stuff that comes out of my coffee percolator early in the morning. At first I thought I'd done something wrong with the US coffee, until someone else I was with told me that's the way they drink it.. :D the stuff we make out here would be similar to the Starbucks Americano.. similar concentration and texture.

I can definitely see why you drink espresso though.. I wouldn't bother with anything else over there.

allthough i've never been out of the States (yet) I've heard that we don't do coffee nearly as well as other countries and I tend to believe ya.. Yellowstone is a lovely place i'm planning on moving there for a season the summer after next.. I can definately see how you would be drawn to photography from being there.. it's only nine hours from me and I'm ashamed to say I haven't been in two years :( .. no excuse at all... where do you live?..
