Anyone that wants snow can have this mess we are getting tonight. Yucko!

Has it snowed a lot? Like, is it sticking?

thanks Liza.. I had been thinking about it and just decided to do something to remind me that Christmas is coming.. Ofcourse I need to get some shopping done dang near impossible up here and I might get to go home and be with family over Christmas Eve but just in case i'm not I figured might as well atleast make an attempt..

sari

I haven't done any shopping, mainly because I've been broke until now. The print sale I made the other day gave me some much needed Xmas money. My son and I are going to do a little shopping tomorrow after his cast is removed at the doctor's office.

No thanks! I despise snow!!! Give me heat and sandy beaches any day. I'd much rather sweat than shiver.

It is now 16 degrees with 40mph wind gusts...we got about 3 inches...that is big here...schools are closed for tomorrow already. The big issue we have is not so much the snow...but the lack of necessary equipment to deal with it. People drive on the snow...pack it down...turns to ice...we have skating rinks...as soon as the sun comes out...it will melt and things will be fine again.

There were over 200 reported accidents between the first flake falling and the last news update. We have 2 interstates that pass thru...both are at a standstill at the moment...waiting for salt and sand to get spread.

Your schools close for 3 inches of snow? Must be nice! We don't close unless we have about 5 to 6 inches on the ground. And I think school has been dismissed early for the weather twice in the last 15 years. People around here are pretty accustomed to the white stuff.

Here in the mid-Willamette valley, it's pretty much the same. If there's the least amount of snow, the counties go into complete panic. We might have, at most, two plows in the area. But then, we have about 458 Big Ol' Pick'em Up Trucks that think they can do whatever they want in the snow just because they have 4x4. I dunno, but I think that 4x4 is just about worthless when all four tires hit ice...

OOP, gotta go, wife's calling!

I prefer front wheel drive on snow and ice. You can go like crazy, but stopping can be problematic.

The problem is not with 3 inches of snow...it is with any snow....there is no snow removal equipment here to speak of. They can't justify the expense. The interstates get taken care of most of the time...some of the US highways get cared for....secondary roads (where most students live) get nothing. If the sun can't get to it and melt it...then nothing happens on that road until the sun can get to it. During the winter...it is not unusual for schools to not open until 10...so the roads will have some time to get sun on them.

4 wheel drive is worthless on ice...but try telling that to some redneck that just plunked his life savings down on one. The news tonight was littered with pictures of upside down vehicles...almost all of them were 4 wheel drive trucks. It does make it easy for them to rotate their tires when the truck is in that pose.

I couldn't imagine not having the big highway trucks with sand and salt loaded on the back. As for sun to melt the white stuff...we'll probably see that again in late March. :)

Did they have gun racks in the back windows?

I'm used to NY....where they seldom close school for less than 12" of snow. Lots of big trucks and other equipment at the ready whenever the need arises. I have a sneaking suspicion that there are less pieces of snow removal gear in the whole state of NC than there are in St. Lawrence County, NY.

Most of the Bubba-boys with fancy trucks here are the city slicker type...you see an occasional gun rack...but they are not all that common. They would probably have heart failure if they saw my gun collection.

Bubba-boys...I like it. They're called "city councilmen" here

Do you have an extensive collection? It's been years since I did any target shooting, although I do enjoy it.

Hi guys...just trying to get caught up on all your chat! Whew!
I have been a working fool for the past 2 weeks with another week to go... our hospital is running over with sick patients and we are all working over time. The bright side is that they are going to close us down for Christmas and New Years so I am willing to go for the trade off!

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.
