I can move it up and down till just the beginning of the tip of where the grad begins reaches the top of the frame. Any more and I might as well just remove the resin filter and shoot 'clear'. Same goes for down, move it down enough so much so that it becomes an impromptu 8X ND (almost no grad

I would be unlikely to upgrade to the 16-35 Mk2 for precisely this reason - that it would render my B+W 77mm CPL and Cokin P system ineffective. f/4 is plenty for all I do, in fact I use f/8 most of the time and let the Gitzo GT1530 with Markins Q3 take care of low light. That rig sure wasn't cheap, but it does allow me to shoot in any light I desire to. well I am like you, even if I get the mk3 or a 5D or any top end models I am unlikey to sell the 17-14. it suits me down to the ground. Suits crop cameras (as std zoom), 1.3x (midrange zoom), 5D as ultrawide. Quality is superb, and it will stay with you for a lifetime. I don't feel the need for a f/2.8 since I don't use it.
