If you have 107mm on the grads...that should work ok...should give you more than enough range.

I plan to use mine on my 16-35 and all the stuff I read said to be sure to go with a Z and the 4x6 grads with that particular lens...especially on FF.

My 17-35 is FF and 77mm. When I put it on the film camera and used the GND, I didn't have any problems using it up or down and getting around 10% coverage. Just my 2 cents.

You bought a 5D or a 1Ds?

Hmm.....now that I have my 1D2 on the way.... I am wondering whether I am crazy enough to attempt to build that lithium-ion 1D2 pack I proposed. It's one thing to design, another thing to implement.. :D

(yes, I have done enough work with Li systems that I know that you must use a specialized Li pack charger for these if I ever do build them. Stick such a Li-refitted pack into a Canon charger and you are gonna be running for cover as the shrapnel flies)

Back 'in the day,' I was chairman of the Multiple Listing Committee for my real estate board. At the time, we had the second largest MLS in the state of California, and we were running the whole thing on obsolete IBM equipment. We were faced with having to replace the entire system because IBM was no longer supporting the hardware or the software.

We looked at a lot of things, but it eventually boiled down to the choice of off-the-shelf UNIXboxes running Oracle software, or a very big (read: expensive) Tandem System. We finally decided on the Oracle system, and sent our recommendation on to the Board of Directors. The Board overruled us, and signed a contract with Tandem. Tandem's salespeople had managed to scare the bejeezus out of a couple people over the unreliability of UNIX:lol:....their marketing tactics were very agressive.

It was a disaster. The whole thing finally ended up in court, and now they're using off-site third party vendors (probably running UNIX). This was around the time that the State of California had their problems with Tandem. That turned into a huge scandal.

I'm at work listening to You Tube music videos in the background and doing work.

Lucky you. They run WebSense where I work. It blocks You Tube. Hell... Lately it seems to be blocking just about everything. Including my own web site. So far POTN still gets through, but I don't expect that to last much longer. I never thought I'd hate a piece of software so much...

You all know that friday the 13th is considered a bad luck day right?

Well officially I am now changing that to wednesday the 13th.

In my world it's Sunday the 13th. I've been in two car accidents this decade. I totalled a car on Sunday, June 13, 2004. Then, I was rear-ended last month on Sunday, May 13, 2007. The only other accident I've ever been in was in 1982 or 1983. I don't remember the exact date (obviously, since I'm hazy on the year now), but I do remember it was a Sunday. I'd be willing to bet it was the 13th of whatever month it happened to be...

Deploying a Cokin P on my 17-40 here. No problems. I can move it up and down till just the beginning of the tip of where the grad begins reaches the top of the frame. Any more and I might as well just remove the resin filter and shoot 'clear'. Same goes for down, move it down enough so much so that it becomes an impromptu 8X ND (almost no grad ;) )

For the 16-35 Mk2 you might want to move to the Z system because it is substantially bigger up front.

This is good to know.

I've been reading an article on all the micro adjustments for the cf on the MKIII...holy mooooo! I can't believe how much has been broken down into the user adjusting them instead of the camera. I think that's why people are having such a hard time with the AF. It's nothing like the MKIIN....

No unless a lot of users have messed with that I don't think that is the cause of the AF issue. Because it is simple to revers it to zero.

I checked 3 lenses so far and as far as I can see none of them need adjustsments. Thats my 24-70 f/2.8, 24-105 f/4 and 70-200 f/2.8 non-IS.

Well, I was reading about the settings and how you are supposed to move the CF III 5 is set to off which prevents the focus for searching again, once focus is lost...and for birding, focus gets lost a lot (in flight)...and if they turn it on, it's continually searching, which means that with busy backdrops the focus will get lost on the foliage. It was suggested that two seperate setups are used...on for bif's with the CF III 5 on and one with it off for non bif's (or to keep it on and keep pushing the focus acquisition button to regain focus).

Did you switch your AF from the AF button to the * button?

About CF3-5. Yes here MKII(N) users recommended to set that to enabled. But with Mark 3 it seems it should be disabled.

There is no need to move AF to * because there is the seperate AF-ON button now. But still there are several ways to customize the shutter button, AF-ON and * buttons.

So far this is my best result with birds in flight. Or rather birds landing

I was wondering about the AF button. The author of the article I read recommends that you switch it because the AF button is awkward and can cause wrist strain.

Anyway, I also read that personal functions are gone (yay, I hated having to hook up to the computer to set those!) but that the CF's are more complicated. Anyway someone mentioned that you can set up two different options (that you can toggle btw.) for focus options.

Obviously this is NOT a "pull out of the box and use" camera :)
