You know, I think I'm a product of mass hysteria. Okay so I buy the MKIII. I find no problems with my unit's AF (even in birding) but what do I do when I go out to shoot? I constantly check the AF, mess with the AF settings and generally panic about whether or not my camera is working. To me it seemed fine, the AF misses I had, I thought were user error but then people started saying my shots were "classic examples of..." and really, I never thought so...but NOW I only think about AF...and CA...and....I really had a stressful shoot yesterday and minimal fun. And considered selling the MKIII for no reason except possible camera error. So much so that I forgot to take it off F4 all day, never considered the highlight priority thing...nothing except AF!

I think I'm nuts.

I know, I know...it's crazy. Maybe I need to use that "it's after 4 somewhere" excuse

Or maybe I just need to go out and shoot and just have fun, like the first time...now there's a novel idea :)

yes, I hate to shoot alone...it just feels weird hauling a big kit w/o someone else

Plus, I love to have someone to share the moments with...that just can't seem to be captured on film. If you know what I mean.

I do know exactly what you mean, and if i do go out with friends and bring the 20D they look at me funny and kind of pick fun.. makes for a bad time. I need a photo buddy! any in guam?

*edit*

Female late 20's would be perfect. :)

I've only been "first in line" once, when I bought my 10D. I got mine at a local shop (R.I.P.) long before B&H even started shipping them. The rumored problems started flying immediately afterwards and people were taking, and posting, pictures of rulers to show how bad the camera performed.

I'm proud to say, I never once took a shot of a ruler (I have plenty of ducks to show from that camera, though ;)). I never had a focusing problem... Rulers were unnecessary.

BTW, that 10D even has the distinction (along with the 28-135 IS lens I no longer own) of capturing the one image that earned me my first dollar (and still has brought in more money than any other shot I've ever taken or sold).

My name is Lonnie, but I answer to Thomas too.

Thanks for sharing that Lonnie. I probably would never have questioned my cam at all if it weren't for the things I read. I'd have just set it up and gone....

You could always start a chat thread and ask if there are any other potn members from guam. I think that's how we found so many from Oregon :)

Speaking of the shoot yesterday, here are a few of my whale shots...nothing really to shout about but it was cool seeing it (or them...hard to tell if it was just one).

showing about how far it was away from shore and spouting

So you got one of it, uh... "Going", too eh?

My brother and I spent a few years on the Ventura/Santa Barbara area fishing fleets every weekend (long before my photo days). I thought I'd seen everything, but I don't remember seeing that before...
