MOOOOO!!! Everyone!

We just got back from a drive on the beach with the convertible top down. Took a dip in the Gulf. I just can't wrap my mind around this whole thing. It's 9:30 at night. 85 degrees and the water was bathwater warm! It boggles my little Pacific Ocean-mind.

Were you at WF?

That's actually the 30D and the 100-400 (Did I mis-state it earlier?). I'll post one from the 24-105 in a bit.

I concur on the juvie double crested cormorant ID. Is this the "Green Heron" shot?

Perm, I'm so glad to hear this. I really have wondered if there aren't a combination of things going on. Primarily, I wonder if the settings just aren't being adjusted properly. This camera is so complex. There certainly could be problems, but I know that "overthinking" a problem can certainly compound it.

By the way, this shot of the CWWOB is stunning! You really need to enter this into Salem Audubon's calendar contest. And as a side note, I'm guessing this shot may do more to endear you to the TF than anything you've done to date!

Sounds like you are having a really good time TD. That's cool!

We were at Ankeny. And yes, that juvie cormorant was what I thought was a green heron...sigh.

and thanks RE: the cwwob shot :) I got some lovely cedar waxwing shots today...they came in really close...I'm really happy with several different poses.

Cool! I've never seen CWW at Ankeny. Where did you see them there? Yes, we're having a great time. We head back to my sister's house in Austin tomorrow. Wish me luck on the great Caracara trek!

Thought 1: "Those wacky ninjas...they're pesky."

Thought 2: Can the TF force an avatar change as well? :p  ;)

(BTW, that is a faux meanyhead, just didn't have anything with the correct grin and that's the closest...)

Evenin' folks, I am back on this side of the mountain. Every time I go over, it gets harder to leave, for more than just the obvious reason. :(.

It is still good to be home for the reason that it is home and feels good.

ANYWAYS...

T.D. It is good to see you are enjoying your self.

Permapuddle, looks like you have been having fun with your birding and snaged some nice shots as well.

These didn't turn out as well as I had thought in my head - I need a better background than the backyard... I will try again later (and maybe Riley can help with the flashes...)

Ha you finally did it, that was awesome! I am willing to help with flashes if you want .

THANK YOU!!! I've been saying this ever since the MkIII came out. It's not another Mk2n. It's a completely different animal. You can't just assume that the things, parameters, hard/software will be identical on the Mk3 just because it's got the same shape! It's all new. There IS a learning curve.... you have to learn the camera all over again. It's not like the shift from the Mk2 to the Mk2n, wherein the changes were slight. It's a massive change. People keep saying, "There's something all wrong... it won't work like my Mk2n" Correct! It won't! Because it's not a Mk2n!!!

I'm sure that someone is going to read my comment and instantly label me a kook because I dare to think that it possible for a well known figure to not have a good grasp of the operations of the camera. I think if you go in understanding the camera is totally different and you take the time to learn it...that it is and will be a fantastic camera for you, but if you go in thinking you know all there is to know about the operation of the camera, it is going to bite you in the @$$.

Thanks Riley.

Continuing with my "bugged" theme for today. This ginormous bug flew right in front of us and landed in this bush. This is the best shot I could get of him. They are REALLY loud!

Permie, here's the 5D/24-105 version of the lizard. Unfortunately, I only shot it at f/8 with the 5D so no creamy bokeh comparison. :(

oh and TD, we saw the CWW's at Eagle marsh. One thing I've noticed about the cww's...they are NEVER in the same place twice. When I go back to look for them, they are never where they were.

Excellent question. As a concept, yes, I think so. In tactile terms, I haven't found any evidence so far.
