Think I should go post it in the WF?

This is a beautiful shot and the pp on it is excellent!

Quite - as a wedding shooter starting out (albeit with a seasoned pro), I just can't imagine saying that people can't use 'professional equipment' - who defines what is professional?

It's utter nonsense...people can get great shots with most of the P&S out there these days...to ban dslr's just shows the insecurity of the person who bans them. And the lack of business skills. I can tell you it's not someone I'd hire.

Woolburr wrote in post #3530823 (external link)
I started reading that yesterday...but when one member got redneck about not allowing anyone with a "professional" camera to take a photo, I had to close it and walk away. I've seen some foolish statements made here...but that one has to be very near the top of the list. If you are so unsure of your work that you have fears of someone possibly getting a better shot than you...then you probably have no business shooting a wedding in the first place. They seem to also forget that they were the ones hired to shoot the wedding, which means the person doing the hiring wasn't happy with the quality of images that Uncle Fred or Cousin Susie were able to provide.

I agree 100%....the biggest problem with the WF is that 80% of them are completely unteachable. They have ego's the size of NYC and they won't actually learn anything. This person spouted off something that I'm sure keeps them from getting bookings (I know I've read in other threads that this is a problem) and others, rather wisely I think, tried to lead this person down a more realistic path and noooo, they wouldn't hear it (then things got ugly). The rather sad thing is that it might have actually helped their business.

goatee wrote in post #3530924 (external link)
One person said how they shot a friend's wedding, and the friend asked them for some full res shots, but they refused as they didn't want to tread on the toes of the 'pro'??? If the bride and groom are happier with shots taken by a guest, then the 'pro' needs to up their game.

I think that was one of the dumbest things said over there...truly. I mean I would never tell a friend no, just to save the ego of a pro. Who's more important my friend or someone I don't know, who's obviously failed in their job?

Woolburr wrote in post #3530990 (external link)
Shooting weddings paid for many playtoys for me over the years. I never had a problem with someone else taking pictures. One of the very first things I noticed is that just because a person has a fancy camera, doesn't mean they even have half a clue as to how to use it.

Sadly, not everyone is as secure as you are Wooly. I think it would make for a better business practice if they were. One guy had it right...charge up front (make them pay up front) for a package. Then let them get the prints from whomever they want...

I'm thinking about selling my 30D. I haven't touched it since I got my MKIII. I had it for birding....I don't know...I realize a backup camera could be important (that's why it's just sitting in my bag). But really, it's just sitting there. Any opinions?

Since you already have it, If I were you, I'd keep it. You never know when a second body would come in handy.

ON the other hand, if you're yearning for some other piece of kit, and selling the 30 will get you that.... maybe consider it. ;)

Moooo evening!

i would keep the 30D as a backup

in the old film days, I had two bodies: EOS 100 and EOS 500 as a backup. I can't tell you how happy I was to have the second body when my main one failed in the middle of a trip in Australia!!! Even if it had been its only use, it would have been worth the expense! Now, I only have one body (unless you consider the EOS100 as being my backup). I hope that I'll be able someday (2-5 years, not before, that's sure) to have a second one. For now, I just need to revamp my lens collection. And it will take a few years ;-)a

Didier, my husband also has a 30D and has said for ages that if I ever needed a backup I could just use his camera. That's why I'm not ultra concerned about that...though it does give me pause.

I'm all for selling your 30D and then letting me help you plan your 'route' to Texas. ;) You might have to spend a few days in Utah. ;) There's lots to see. Coffee to drink. You know. ;)

Then, it's a different story! You really don't need it. So I would sell it :)
