How about some non-train photos from today (non-birds too)? All with the new lens.

Nice one Perm! I like the perspective.

Here's my attempt on the same barn.

Not too sure about her TC. I'm not familiar with that kind. It says that the type of TC is called a "non-reporting" type. I don't like the sound of that. I'll take it out and try to figure out what that means later today. As for her appropriating my stuff, it won't bother me. We carry around our own stuff, but we see it as both of ours. So if she needs the 2x TC, that's cool.

As for her being up, no, I'm flying solo here. No one's awake yet. They were all up late doin' stuff, and I, being the ol' man, crashed early.

:D just funnin' ya about the gear stealin' and arm twistin' :p it's nice to share. I would definitely share with the Chosen One in my life. (the Chosen One doesn't shoot Noink either.)

I have the exact same TC. What it does is run the electronic signals from the camera straight through to the lens without telling the lens "Hey, I'm here, please factor in my light loss of 1 stop". This is good and bad. The good is that your camera will still try to autofocus. The bad is that it may not succeed depending on whether you are operating out of spec.

The 1.5X should bring the 70-200 f/4L IS down to f/5.6, but that is still within spec. I used this TC on my 300 f/4L IS (450/5.6L IS effective) and AF worked just fine. The 1.5X on other combos, say 70-300 IS (f/5.6 down to f/8 effective) is extremely marginal but in large part due to operating out of spec. IS continues to work, and I could still get focus confirmation (red reticle, beep) using MF. I have some shots with the 1.5X/70-300 combo that are surprisingly good.

Taping the pins makes a reporting TC into a non-reporting one. This includes the Canon original TCs.

The photos on their site are pathetic at best....I would think they would want the best they could get. Funny...I thought there was a whole section about Glenn Miller and the original lyrics....hmmmmmmmmmmm

The recall only pertained to very early copies of the lens. If you bought yours new this summer, there is nothing to worry about.

Cool. Thanks Wool. I appreciate the info very much!

That's nice shot, TD. That barn is so picturesque. I've got to get back out there....

I didn't see it, but then I didn't really look too hard. They had a small file that played the song, but it wasn't Miller, trust me.

Thanks -- tell Perm she's got to let you tag along next time! Or I'm going to try and get down there during the dry spell predicted for tomorrow, I could pick you up!

Thanks. This is the 30D with the aforementioned 24-105. I also have an XT, but it rarely gets out of the bag these days.

Sounds like fun, but with all the Christmas prep going on, I don't think I'll have a chance to do much except run around getting ready. I'll take you up on that offer next time, though.

Your twin will enlighten you....she knows the ways of the world pretty darn well...pretty sharp cookie.

I'd be glad to lend assistance as well. God knows, I'm no Bo Peep. ;)

She seems to be a very impressive character. She needs to find a good school and get a permanent appointment. I think a class with her would be a riot.;)

She should apply at Eastern Illinois University. That's where I did my post-grad work to get my teaching cert. Her style of teaching would fit well there.

I was actually thinking of your experiences and figuring there might be a good reason why so many Canon users went with 3rd party MF primes...

I still like the system and all the fancy technology that goes with it, but I'm not above calling it onto the carpet where it fails to do the job. Today I met a 24-70/2.8L that positively sucked too. Yikes. That makes two that I've seen that were not up to par - the other one I shot on my 350D many months ago was soft too. The rallying cry is "stop it down, stop it down" - I know! I have a 'permanently stopped down' 24-105 that seems to be stuck at f/4! :p :p :p

And be nice to Ed.. don't tell him that the 70-200 f/4L IS sucks ;)

You're really bursting my bubble. I had the 50/1.4 and the 24-70 on my list of things to buy next. The f/4 lenses are of no interest to me since I shoot in low light much of the time. Tim is trying to talk me into the 17-55IS, but I'm not crazy about the EF-S thing.

We finished around noon. We got a huge basket each with candy. Ugh. NOT good for my next year diet plans! I left it at the office.

Next year's diet plans? Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today. I've lost four pounds so far.

Very nice barns. They're one of my favorite things to photograph on the rare occasion that I actually shoot for pleasure.

Oh, and Wyatt has progressed on his recorder from playing "Mary Had a Little Lamb" to Beethoven! He was playing "Hymn to Joy" this morning. I'm not musical, so it's amazing to me that this child has taught himself to play the instrument.

Take Care, Webb and happy holidays to you too.

I hope Santa is kind to Lola and brings her a nice paper sack for her head.

That would be a gift to us all, wouldn't it?!

Peace on Earth.
