One more from Kettle Foods (keep in mind this is from my pre 1-4 days). Shot this with the crappy 75-300. I can't wait for spring to get there with my 1-4!!

I did rather well on the fair circuit this year too...this one took first place in the Professional Abstract category, Artistic Division...judges choice for best overall abstract....Best of Show...Professional Division....I wish you could see it as it appears in print...this doesn't do it justice.

Cool! I entered our county fair (as mentioned) and the State Fair. Didn't win anything at the State Fair, but actually had 2 photos displayed. I was pretty happy with that for my first time.

Always a pleasure to see your work, Wool. I've enjoyed those, but still like that flahr macro and the ice shots.

IS won't substitute for aperture won't substitute for IS. What do you plan to use it for? IS won't stop action, but a 1-stop faster aperture can't make up for a 3-4-stop IS advantage on relatively immobile subjects.

TRUE WISDOM!!!!!!

They are NOT substitutes.. they are different technologies for different applications!! (and therefore one must match them to their application..!)

I took first, second, and third places in the sports category, first in the "Last Year's Fair" category, and second place in the portrait category. I think I got some other ones, too, but don't remember all of them. I also was invited to participate in a local gallery exhibit, so I entered a couple of B&W pieces.

Here's one of the sports pics:

Yes, because just about everybody who has ever thought of IS vs aperture needs to see this...

Using the wrong technology to solve a problem will only end in tears. Jon has the BEST concise summary of everything we have lectured and preached on for months.

Very cool, Liza. Nice stop of the action (something IS can't do!)

Got it. I saw this post in the other thread.

I have to admit to some tears (well, not quite, but disappointment) as I've tried to learn. I still wonder, sometimes, if I've learned a thing....

Oh, that whole IS vs. aperture thing is simple if you just remember that IS allows you to hand hold at SLOW shutter speeds. When you shoot moving targets, you want a FAST shutter speed.
