Oops.... I thought you were worried about being mugged.

That night the risk of getting a rocket or something else that says bang in the face is much higher than getting mugged.

Over here the displays are run by the pro's who light off millions of dollars of shells. The most dangerous stuff they let non-professionals have are the sparklers. I would rather watch the pros anyway.. much nicer displays too, if for no other reason than the mega-scale budgets!

I would prefer that too. Much safer and much nicer. But we don't see a lot of that here. But there is a lot of illegal imported fireworks. Also a lot of the fireworks that only the pro's are supposed to have get into the hands of inexperienced people. And then there are all the homemade fireworks. Just a few days ago 2 idiots got killed when they were creating homemade fireworks. The trailer they worked in got blasted into millions of pieces. Only thing left was the bottom frame with the weels and the dead body landed 75 meters away. Fortunately it happened on a farm in the country and nobody but the fools got killed or hurt.

Yikes that is just nasty.

I'm aware home has some very strict rules regarding certain things, but no more strict than other places can be about things that matter to them (the specifics may differ but the severity is the same). I can see why they would prefer the fireworks be kept away from the uninitiated though, especially when you mix them with alcohol.. that's a dangerous combination. Such laws, in the end, are not targeted at those of us who can think for ourselves.. they are targeted at those who cannot, or will not, or do not want to.

I personally don't care if idiots blow themselves up because I believe in personal responsibility (for good or for bad you live with your own decisions), but if they do unto innocent bystanders then that is totally unacceptable.

Hmm....seems that the majority of the RRTP have gone to sleep... I should head out and go shooting :)

Most places here have some restrictions on fireworks for consumers, but they could use more...nothing worse than a couple drunk rednecks and some explosives....we always seem to have one or two that manage to vaporize themselves every season. And there are always the ones that try to make their own that end up very much like Tommy described.

Here is one I was playing with auto-focus just for the heck of it...no real value...but I got a kick out of it....sort of reminded me a someone spilling a box of movie candy.

The good thing is that we are really efficient at putting a stop to this kind of antisocial behavior. Imagine if some fool in a trailer detonates explosives in the city? Wouldn't want that happening in MY city.. it'd make a whole lot of people EXTREMELY unhappy.

They usually blow themselves up out in the country...trying to make up a batch of fireworks...don't want anyone to see what they are up to...especially when they go to test a few...not real easy to set off a big firework in a city without being noticed. So when they vaporize themselves...the only witnesses are the funny looking cows in sheepskin!

I can just imagine the cows talking.. "It's Christmas and New Year's. Time to trade the sheepskin for the flak jackets." :p
