The K Mount to EOS adapters are hard to find. I bought my two off a guy in France on eBay UK. I think they were about £30 each which is a rip off, but the big picture is that I paid £65 for the lens mint and boxed and £30 for the adapter and got one of the very best 50mm's you can buy ... so seems a bargain seen in that light. It is a very evocative lens that 'feels' so you don't even think about dull stuff like 'sharpness', you just look at the image ... very Zeiss or Leica like. You need a split focus screen to keep the keeper ratio up tho' as, esp. with the 350/400 class cameras the viewfinder just doesn't help MF at all. Works fine with my 30D and focus screen.

We have no differences of opinion as far as I know when it comes to the basics of photography, nor the merits of non-Canon 50mm's He just wants to spend more money than me.

Oh, I've given up on CanonDyke...if he wants to shoot with "classic" crap, that's in his right.

Given the EF 50/1.4's half baked performance I might be tempted by the classics

Currently the price/performance front runners are the SMC Pentax 1.4 and the Zeiss 1.7 T* Planar.
