Do you have any pictures?

See? it looks just like a Shay, but backwards.

These were geared locomotives. The cylinders were on the side of the locomotive, and drove a cranckshaft that connected to the wheels through bevel gears. They were designed for steep grades, tight curves, and bad track. They were very popular with logging railroads. There are still lots of Shays running on tourist railroads, but I'm not sure about any Willamettes.

By the way, have I said lately not to microwave chicken?

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Ah yes, giving the 400D the dial would have been impractical for them because that'd kill the market for the 30D. "Build quality" is not something I am TOTALLY hung up over (just a little bit I'll admit :p). Impractical for us because the dial would be quite small though I fail to see why it cannot replace the 4 buttons.

Friend was contemplating blowing $1K on his GF for Christmas.. now THAT is anathema to me.

I am hung up on build quality, but would have picked up an XTi for a wedding backup had they added a dial instead of those infernal buttons. Now, I'll probably go with another 20D until I make enough to afford a 5D or 1DMKIIN.

And if your friend ever dumps his girlfriend, send him my way!

Oh wow, you're right. It's just like the Shay but backwards! What were they thinking?!

I would definitely recommend you a 20D. Also, speaking from personal experience, operating a XT with a 5D is not so fun as they use a different type of battery and have a different command set. Much better to use a 20D/30D with a 5D, the transition is seamless and you have a common pool of spares (increases survivability in the event of a failure).

1DM2N in your hands would be awesome for sports work though!!

And friend and his GF... I can already envision their wedding a few years from now.

You'll be relieved to know I just enjoyed a wonderful slice of prime rib and red potatoes prepared by yours truly!

Plus I have had a cold that simply won't go away (damn aircraft have some virulent stuff)...

Yes, it is better to have the dial for seamless transition between cameras. When I carry that XT from work with my 20D, I have a devil of a time switching gears from camera to camera. While I love my 10D dearly, I can't use it in low light situations. The ISO above 400 is pretty noisy compared to the 20D.

And that 1DMkIIN would be awesome, wouldn't it? Gives me cold chills just thinking about the 8.5fps burst!

You're making a rather large assumption aren't you?

;)

Even the 1D classic blew me away. It's not just the burst, the finder blackout time is halved compared to the 20D and 5D, and the shutter FEELS incredibly crisp and responsive.

I'll keep you in mind if I ever decide to let my 1D go, though that doesn't seem likely! High ISO performance is not spectacular though.

We had our turkey today. I've been cooking all afternoon. Now, I'm cleaning up. I keep hoping the Tupperware crowd will cheer me up, so I check in every few minutes.

So far, you're not getting the job done, so I'm going back to my dishes, pots, and pans.

It's just not the same without being able to bash that tragic little Lola at least once per day is it?!

When's Webby coming back?

My train picture didn't do it? I thought that was the instant-cure for Belmondo!?
