MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It's 9am and I just got up. Haven't even looked in my stockings yet. Realised it's the first time in 27 years I haven't woken up ut 6/7am & looked in my stockings, then back to bed.

Damn, that shows how tired I am from work etc. LOL

Morning Claire (or evening to you?)

Dave, in Sweden we celebrate on the 24th, Christmas Eve. Christmas Day is for lazying around & trying to digest the food & enjoy the pressies. :)

Or in my case, tomorrow meet the girls, catch up on the past 6 months & get more gifts. :)

I can't believe there's a whole country that celebrates like we do (except that we open our presents tomorrow...but the big celeb. is today! :) Did you look in your stockings yet?

Yeah, got a lot to do today...I just needed some "ME" time before the bustle....coffee and silence are golden, and much to be desired before a busy day!

I gave someone a ring and we might be on the city streets tomorrow with our SLRs. Planning to fly light: 24-105, 5D, 430EX, and unload ALL non-essentials from the bag. Bag gets Real Heavy Real Quick too. Going to push the IS system to its limits, probably going to work ISO 1600.. we plan to be out after sunset way into the evening.

That's if he doesn't run out on me.

He's also a Noink user.. 18-200 VR and D70s. :p

Oh...that'd be cool...I don't do much street photography at all but I enjoy looking at it a lot. Hope to see some of your shots? :) I wonder how yours/his will compare...I've always wanted to see shots from each camera side by side (though I'd really like to see the d80 compared to the 30D). I'm not a noink hater you know...I LOVE some of their options and wish Canon had them on their lower end models.

I've never seen an albino oscar...weird. What do you keep in the tank with it? We used to have three of the regular ones when I was growing up...they ate everything else in the tank except the plecostomus catfish....

I'll up some of them.. I hope I get something good. His low-ISO performance is nowhere near mine, but the 18-200 VR is a decently credible lens and tremendously convenient. We have nothing on that.

I have decided to be stubborn and pigheaded about my choice of camera though, since everybody is about theirs and I have had enough of being tolerant. (pushed to one side if you will) However, for friends I make an exception.

I've heard that some, not all, but some of the Nikon lenses out perform even the Canon L's...I've never personally experienced this though, so who knows if it's true. But several of them get great reviews.

As for my choice of camera, I don't go for the s & p, because it doesn't really matter to me if anyone agrees or not...just as long as it works for me. I read on a thread the other day that the camera is a tool, not the object de art itself...just a tool to acquire the it...I don't remember which thread but they were talking about babying the camera itself and one guy just said "I USE mine, not baby it..." Anyway, it made sense to me. I can understand taking care of one's gear for sure...I'm not advocating leaving it in the sand :D....it (for it's own sake) just doesn't matter to me as much as to some, so what others think about what I've got is irrelevant.

Nikon's got a few good primes. As I told you the other day, I personally watched my dealer use a D80 with Nikkor 50/1.8 AF-D to cream a Canon 50/1.4. BLEAH.

They are not so strong in the ultrawide, zoom, tele, USM (theirs is SWM) and IS departments though. Their strength, I feel, lies in the classical primes, because of their long heritage. This is where the 'we didn't change the mount and therefore did not need to change the optical formula' heritage shows through. However, by not changing the mount, one needs to navigate an entire compatibility chart just to figure out WTF can be mounted without actually causing damage to the camera.
