hi all.. anybody miss me?.. My goodness did I have an adventure today.... got caught in a bit of a blizzard up here.. couldn't get my car to go so I parked for awhile called work and asked one of my bosses to come get me... after sitting in my car for an hour I saw a snowplow and followed it into Cascade stopped at the gas station and waited for Ryan who brough Mack and somehow between the two of them they decided to drive my car back up because were getting another storm on top of this one.. My car barely made it. If I had been driving the stupid thing I couldn't have kept it on the road i'm just not that talented.. But, i'm lucky.. i'm home. Safe and sound feel a little embarrassed.. Nobody would pick up cell phones so I had to call the front desk so the entire resort knows I got myself stuck in the snow stupidly trying to come up the mountain....

Glad to hear you made it safe and sound, Sari!

I'll be damned if I know, Lisa. Everyone else seems to keep track a lot better than I do. If I recall, I've had 12.

It's just the 24-70L, Tom. Notice my avatar. Did you not know what my title meant? :p

No, I honestly never made the association. Now I will never forget.

Anyway, I have one, and I don't use it enough since I got the 24-105L. (Speaking of which, I had one of the early copies of the 24-105 that was subject to the recall. I sent it in, and they sent me a new one. As far as I know, there was nothing wrong with the first one. The new one seems to be just fine, too.)

Look on the bright side...at least you had fun. If not, where would you be?

I'd be embarassed, too. I mean come on...Suzuki? :p just pickin' on ya, Sari. ;-)a

yes. i'm aware that my car is the wrong one for these mountains.. I know that I should have studded tires and keep chains in my trunk. no excuse for my not having them... stupid me for not even thinking about the weather I just kind of figured it would be similar to the last two days... there's no excuses I was dumb. shouldn't have tried driving it at all... but, as crazy as this is the boys were completely nice about the whole thing. didn't get teased at all.. Probably will tomorrow..

That's what happened with me. I bought the 24-105L and never used the 24-70 again. I ended up selling it because it was just taking up space.

Sari, glad you are safe!

you one of those type bosses so that they'll be able to relate the mug to the show?

btw. your comment on the worst bird lens thread was VERY funny..

Ahem! I don't THINK so! We laugh about it and I make "Michael Scott" (the boss on the Office) statements now and again -- only the ones appropriate for an actual workplace, though!).

PekToral is just so funny...why the heck would he be messing with a 75-300??!! for crying in the night! I'm sure he was just fooling around, but I couldn't let it go unchecked. The minute I do that -- Katie, bar the door!

I Love the 24-105. Never had the brick, though, so I can't compare. I just like the range of the 24-105. You can use it inside, outside, architecture, landscapes. It's really versatile.

P. is funny. But he is talented (I think it's safe to say that since he doesn't visit this thread anymore...won't give him a big head ;) ). All the shots I ever took with that lens had such horrid CA that I would never have guessed it was the one he used.

I love my 24-105 as well...just love it. Use it so often, it's strange when it's not on the camera :)

it seems that the 24-105 is better than the 24-70. I would like to upgrade the 28-135 that I am using at the moment. (this will not be for a couple more months) but at first I would like the 24-70, but us the 24-105 a better lens?

The only reason I would have liked the 24-70 is the F2.8 but it's not like I really have a need for a lens that wide open. I don't do at lot of low light work anyway.

what's your guys opinion on the 2 bits of glass?

Wow! Tall guys!

It's better don't you think? I've met some tall women in my time and they are always sorry they aren't shorter (and of course, short women are always sorry they aren't taller)...so I'll stick with being happy with myself ;)

Me, too. I like being 5'7". I can carry more weight that way.

The 24-105, while the perfect focal range, would be way too slow for me. I shoot in a lot of low light situations, so the 24-70 would be more appropriate for my purposes. And I'm going to get it this spring if it kills me!

They are both excellent. the 24-70 is faster and has a bit nicer bokeh but it's heavier and doesn't have IS. The 24-105 has a better range, nice bokeh, and IS and is lighter. I perfer the latter combination. Some people want the speed of the 2.8 ( but that's why I keep primes around...in my zooms I want versatility and I get that w/the 24-105).

Don't worry TD, I doubt a rather backhanded compliment from me will turn his head even if he were to read it....the world is safe ;) ...

That really covers it quite nicely.

I should get rid of one or the other, but I'm still in my hoarding phase.

BTW, I just heard that one of my neighbors died......Gerald R. Ford. He lives here in the desert, and we used to run in him from time to time on his morning walks and at various local events. He was a good man, and maybe the last president we had who was able to transcend partisan stupidity.

I guess that's the way I should look at, which lens gives me the best versatility. I will have to test them out and see which one I like. I have already used the 24-70 and it was nice to use.

Tom, I hurd that on the news today. A couple of well known americans have died in the last couple of days. James Brown and now Gerald R. Ford. Was he a well liked president?

That's a shame, Tom. I never got to experience him, but I read about him, and he seemed like quite the guy.

As for the lens, nevermind. Just bought a laptop instead. I decided, once again, that I don't need it. Thanks just the same, though. Keep on hoarding. You've every right. ;-)a

Gerald Ford will proabably be best remembered as the president who pardoned Richard Nixon. He also has the distinction of being the only US president who was not elected to the office of President or Vice President. He was appointed when Spiro Agnew, Nixon's first vice-president resigned as a result of a bribery scandal.

In retrospect, he was probably the best man for the job when he ascended to the presidency after Nixon's resignation. He was generally respected by both parties, and didn't have a lot of baggage when he took over the office. His years in Congress served him well as far as being able to bring people together on difficult issues.

Most of all, he was just a very decent man. Very few people have anything bad to say about him, and for a career politician, that's quite an accomplishement.
