Most of all, he was just a very decent man. Very few people have anything bad to say about him, and for a career politician, that's quite an accomplishement.

Yes, he was a very decent person. I remember his presidency well. His wife is a good woman, too. She did a lot to increase breast cancer and substance abuse awareness.

We still have the Betty Ford Clinic down here. We drive by it a couple times a week. I always find myself wondering, 'What famous person is in there drying out right now?'

I had the pleasure of meeting both Mr. and Mrs. Ford on various occasions, and they were just the same in person as the image they conveyed on the tube.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

it's always sad when an ex-leader of state passes away. Last year we had a very much loved PM (prime mister) die after suffering a long illness. He was the one that told US not to bring any nuclear powered ships in the country :) he came from a normal background and never forgot it ether. All parties had a lot of respect for the guy, which is not that common amongst those that run our countries.

The sad part is that Gerald Ford never was given the opportunity to serve as the elected president. I had the privilege of serving as a military representative at a couple of state affairs during his tenure. He was indeed a good and honorable man who transcended partisan politics.

Can't believe we have filled almost 500 pages so far. Some of it even related to photography....

I'm going to have a day filled with shooting tomorrow. I'm starting out at 11 am doing a portrait shoot for a fellow who wants his personals profile looking spiffy. It's a new venture for me, so he's my guinea pig. Then it's on to basketball tournament #1 at 1:30pm. When I finish there, I'm probably going to pick up my new "friend" and go to another tournament in a neighboring town where his son is playing. I thought the kid might like some shots of himself playing ball.

They are both excellent. the 24-70 is faster and has a bit nicer bokeh but it's heavier and doesn't have IS. The 24-105 has a better range, nice bokeh, and IS and is lighter. I perfer the latter combination. Some people want the speed of the 2.8 ( but that's why I keep primes around...in my zooms I want versatility and I get that w/the 24-105).

Pretty much my opinion. If you need the speed there is no other way to go about getting it - 24-70 all the way. Better if you are doing a lot more portraits, or interoperating with flash a lot.

I find the 24-105 is my bread-n-butter PJ zoom for both walkaround, corporate events coverage and street shooting. Now I REALLY push that IS for everything it can offer and then some though ;)

And if all else fails, I paint the target with my 430EX. The other night, at night, I lit up the entire side of a 4-storey megamall with the 430EX.. that flash does a whole lot more than I imagine it can!

SINGAPORE (Reuters) -- Telecommunications around Asia were severely disrupted on Wednesday after earthquakes off Taiwan damaged undersea cables, slowing Internet services and hindering financial transactions, particularly in the currency market.

Banks and businesses across the region reported problems with communications, with some telephone lines cut and Internet access slowing to a crawl.

South Korea's top fixed-line and broadband service provider, KT Corp, said in a statement that six submarine cables were knocked out by Tuesday night's earthquakes.

No wonder my Net sucks today (I'm back home somewhere in Asia). REALLY sucks. From what I know most of the region is affected... not your everyday garden variety "Oops I plucked out the wrong cable" outage.

Couldn't read POTN most of the day ;)

Ahem! I don't THINK so! We laugh about it and I make "Michael Scott" (the boss on the Office) statements now and again -- only the ones appropriate for an actual workplace, though!).

PekToral is just so funny...why the heck would he be messing with a 75-300??!! for crying in the night! I'm sure he was just fooling around, but I couldn't let it go unchecked. The minute I do that -- Katie, bar the door!

messing with a 75-300??!! :o

that thing was the FIRST lens I bought (at the suggestion of the salesman) ... anyone looking to buy one?

So far I only have one good glass ... 70-200"L" IS

people around here are just too nice!

... if they told me I was a dumb A$$ for getting it when I first showed up ... I could have returned it ... and got a real hunk o' glass ....

hmm .... my signature actually means something ....

GOSH!! Mrs. Ford was big on substance abuse...

... the president was more concerned with America instead of trying to create some darn legacy ...

Morning All,

Woke up at 4a.m here...rotten luck. Thought I'd check in and see if anyone was about...

Yoda, what do you mean by a "pj" zoom? (It's possible that I'm just tired and will comprehend this later but for now, I have no idea what you mean :D ).

Morning.... no wonder you are up uncommonly early...

PJ zoom...one that feels as comfortable as wearing your PJ's of course!

Actually it has a million and one different meanings to everybody. When I'm covering events, when I am trying to 'tell the story' in pictures, so the 24-105 is my personal favorite for photojournalism (PJ) use despite the slow aperture. I know some other photojournalists prefer 24-70, but that's their call (I can respect that - nothing wrong with it) and this is mine. It seems to work out well for me so I am not too worried. You've seen my low light work using this lens.. the Christmas lightup would be an example of this kind of work.

Some even prefer the 70-200, but I find I need the wide end much more. 105 is good for reasonable closeups. If I need even longer, that falls to the 70-200 on a second body.

I like the PJ's definition better ;)

Now that I've had one cup of coffee, I think I might not have had to ask that question
