Same "Shy Guy" as before?

Yes, the same one. He's really pouring it on lately.

We'll be waiting for the post-date report, Liza.;) ;)

Oh, don't worry. I'll be on here as soon as I get home. He's just so nice, it's like he's almost too good to be true. I guess I'll find out more on Saturday.

That was this thread:https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=213883

You'll notice, the last post was by me in all my pompous self-reighteousness. I really think that thread had gone in an unhealthy direction, which this one has not.

You're all to be congratulated.

that's because we are all old and wise :)

so that's what we have to do? post some shots of ducks. I still haven't done that with my sigma lens. That's my goal tomorrow. Still got to over come my shyness tho.

Hmm a lot of things happen overnight.....

I return to find Sari has become as cutting edge a L lens red ring duck shooter as the best of them and that one of my hard disks (again with valuable photos on it - seems that the ones with the valuable data always attract trouble) is going to die soon, necessitating more $$ be spent on replacement. Early next year, expect to see glass up for sale.

Sorry to hear your bad news, Yoda! I hope you get the new storage soon.
MY HDs are fine, but I am going to have to buy more storage soon, myself. I only have about 36 gig left on the Imac I got last week and the two externals are full, plus my old laptop. ANd that's after deleting 4000 shots. I think I will run in to the office and grab some DVDs so I can burn work related photos

Thanks Wu.. actually this disk was 'scheduled' to go anyway. My home computer (as in, truly at home) is a 3.5 year old beast, which is forever in our terms. It would be like driving a 20 year old car and expecting it to perform flawlessly ;)

No data loss, because I picked it up early and I can intervene before things get worse. It's showing subtle signs.. but I'm not gonna wait till it becomes not-so-subtle  it's just that I don't like throwing $$ at the computers (would rather sink it into glass) but then again, computers are sorta useful for us digital photogs..

Speaking of which, thought I'd share a little bit of general advice.. modern hard disks should be replaced at 3 year intervals. At the office we tend to find one will go around the 3.5 year mark, and we replace entire arrays every 3 years to prevent this. You should see the tons of disks we throw out.. some metal recycler's gonna make a fortune outta us :D

I thought the 3-year-replacement rule only applied to disks we ran hard and pounded 24x7 (these are the servers), not my own workstation, but then again, mine is run pretty hard too :D

Ohh, errm.. yeah, we try to replace the bits n pieces which fall out all over the road ;)

Cool :D

I am half deciding whether I want to call Dell again, or break out the screwdriver. As this is the 'home' computer that I will use 2 months out of the upcoming 12, I think if I can squeeze a year more out of it, with 10 months idle time, I'm good. And it will cost less.

Need I remind you, but being in the Southern Hemisphere, this number is upside down. It is actually 00081. Still, it's a significant accomplishment for some.

He's slowed down considerably from the early days. I remember when he first signed on, he would click "new posts" and respond to each and every thread.
