I was looking at one of these not sure if I should get it or not. Has anyone had experience with one. It seems like a cross between a softbox and a umbrella. It also seems like it wouldnt spill light like a normal umbrella would.

What would be your recomendations?

BTW this will be used with a vivitar 285 HV

Thanks
Roshan

I think that might "spill" way more light than an standard umbrella. but much less than a "shoot through" white umbrella.
the other option is a "brolly box" type of umbrella that has a flat diffuser over the open end of the umbrella.

i see what you are saying, i primarily use shoot through umbrellas so from my point of view it would spill lest light.

Do you recommend using the "brolly box" instead.

I have these (the reflective not shoot through) http://www.skaeser.com …DIFIERS:SOFTBOX+UMBRELLAS (external link)

They look like a very similar design. Pretty easy to setup and give a decent quality of light but there is a lot more light spill than a regular softbox.
