Just catching up on a bit of scanning from last year.
Blue skies and sunshine can be monotonous after a while. So a rain day for shooting is good.
OM10, superia400 (I think ).

Help me, please. I am suffering from fear of releasing the shutter.

I grew up on film. Got my first camera in the middle '60s. Bought my first SLR in '76. I shot film until my last camera died in about 2008. I've been shooting digital since. I've had an Elan 7NE (my second copy) for about two weeks. I can't bring myself to release the shutter. With digital, who cares? Chimp, delete, repeat. With film, I can always find something about the shot to make me not take it. Lens, focal length, lighting, framing, aperture, yadda-yadda. After a week of that, I decide to mount the 85 1.8, and shoot a roll with just that lens. I got the camera out 3 or 4 times. I'm never happy with what I see in the viewfinder.

I can pick up my 6D and fire 20 shots at the cat, or the wall for that matter. Who cares? It is almost free. When I grab the film camera, I want everything to be perfect. It is almost paralyzing me. Any suggestions?

1. practice being careful with digital.
2. set aside funds for film and spend it.
3. get some cheap film like a 4 pack of superia and shoot a roll of just your cat. Then a roll (or half) of something else etc... Even if you never get them developed, it could help.

#2 is the key for me. I have funds set aside, decide I'm going to spend the money and go shoot. Then it is like going to a casino where I allocate how much I am going to spend before hand and just have to decide how to spend it.

Having said all that, I am still more careful and do tend to shoot less 'crap' and even put the camera away where there is clearly noting worth shooting or the light is total crap. However, screwing up 1/2 roll is IMO just part of the deal. It happened before digital, it still happens and ever so occasionally the screw up turns into something quite wonderful (like under exposing everything by 2 stops when I was in the Pueblo in NM).

How true. Somehow, I've gotten in my head that digital is perfect. Reminder: My keeper rate is 10% with digital. Just go shoot!.

I will expose a roll tomorrow!

I just dumped out about a half gallon of D-76 dated 2011... Yes, it's been THAT long... :(

Even with digital I find when I go out for a few hours shooting I'm lucky if I shoot 40 frames. Sometimes with film I'll just have fun and go shoot the "spray and prey " as they call it these days. On the weekend I went to local car race meet and just shot with Ilford fp4. Doesn't take long to go through a roll of 36 when your really enjoying yourself.

Canon FTb, FD 50mm f1,4, Kodak CP 100 5094 shot in September 1983.

Scanner: Plustek OpticFilm 7400 with bundled software (SilverFast).

Photos straight out of the scanner, no postprocessing. Medium resolution (450 DPI for a 4x6 print, or, 2656x1792 pixels). Produces a JPEG of about 2 Mb.

A couple of random photos from a roll of Portra 160 I shot through an Elan IIe during the past couple of weeks.

Nice photos. I have a EOS 630 with less than a thousand shots on the shutter. I am currently in a massive effort to scan the negatives from the previous life (I went digital in 2001). I am curious what modern film with modern lenses (like the EF 70-200 f2.8 MkII) can produce...

Nice work. I have a spot in my heart for the Elan IIe. Good camera.

The Captain and crew finally got their stuff together, now if we can only remember where we left it.

I've have a couple of rolls of Portra 160 in the fridge. You've prompted me to load up and shoot them.
